KR-2 Weight and Balance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: KR-2 Weight and Balance From: "Oscar Zuniga" Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 05:26:50 PST X-Message-Number: 1 In case everybody didn't figure it out, the post from Down Under about the government-mandated CG limits on the KR-2 for Aussie KR-2s works out to 8-12" aft of L.E. at the stub wing, if I read it correctly. That narrows down the allowable range considerably. Like 50% less allowable CG range. From: "Oscar Zuniga" Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 06:51:59 PST X-Message-Number: 3 Hello, ROM heads Well, I am finally making some headway on creation of the KRNet CD-ROM Traveling Library in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. I finally got the Adobe setup running to create the PDFs; it is slick. The key will be entering keywords for each scanned page, to allow it to find the most stuff the quickest. On pages of the old newsletters where there are many subjects on a page, it will just be my guess as to what folks are most likely to search on. Let's say an article talks about Jack B. Nimble's KR-1 first flight, and that Jack's bird uses an 1835 VW with a Warnke prop, has retracts, uses a POSA carb, first flew in 1980, has a striking mauve paint job, etc. etc.- the list of search keywords for a single page could be boggling. I will use my best judgement. The second excellent part of this adventure is that our HP CD burner was really giving us fits, so we opted to shelf it in favor of one of the new HP 8100 units, which also does rewritables. Hey now, this pup can burn a CD in a fraction of the time (like 9 minutes, depending on available memory for swap file), and so I can probably do this solo, and still be efficient. I'll try to get moving on this, and try to have a master made by end of year. Don't hold your breath though; my engine is supposed to arrive here next week, and I want to get it set up to test run. Gotta get my prop, and some instruments... Another thing to think about is that the 15 to 35% (or the preferred 15 to 30%) should probably be of the mean aerodynamic chord rather than the 48" root chord. MAC= (wing area)/(span) in my case that's 81sq-ft/21.5ft or 3.77 ft (not 4) it's really a bit of a nit. -Peter- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: What Oscar has been up to From: "Brian J. I was really glad to get back on the ground in one piece. So it is VERY IMPORTANT to get the CG in the proper range, unless you wand to become famous in the NTSB reports. Skip Carden ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Elevator Hinge resistance From: "Dean Collette" Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 14:22:53 -0600 X-Message-Number: 10 Netters, I am in the process of building my horizontal stabilizer and elevator, and after glassing the HS and mounting the elevator spar with the hinges, I noticed that I have developed some resistance during the deflection of the elevator. I found that it requires 4.5# applied to the bellcrank to move the spar in either direction. This resistance stays constant throughout the range of motion. Does anybody have any idea what is acceptable here? There is several things that I could do to the existing hinges to decrease this resistance, but if I'm way off I'll remake the hinges. Does anyone live near Charleston SC ( or even surrounding state) and have a kr? I'll drive or fly my Rans S-7 (if possible), or I'll be happy to compensate somehow if anyone could fly out to Charleston. Thanks all.
