In defense of the tri-gear tho, there were infrequently flying KR owners that were a bit reluctant to travel some distance away from home and be met with wind conditions which would set them up for a possible ground loop or otherwise less than perfect landing. Having to hitch a ride home is a most humbling experience. As Bill said, the retracts look pretty racy on fly-bys. Just check out those passes made by Don Betchan in his then KR-2, in the Gathering videos about 3 years back. Really sharp! If built correctly, they won't retract at the wrong time - BUT you gotta remember to put them down at the right time, too. Your turn, tri-gearers. :0) Ed Janssen have bAt 08:16 AM 1/31/99 EST, you wrote: >In a message dated 1/30/99 8:17:48 PM Eastern Standard Time, >langford@hiwaay.net writes: > >> >> >> I think the conventional wisdom is that replacing stock retracts with fixed >> main gear will get you more speed, and even save a few pounds, not to >> mention the peace of mind you get when you're 5 feet above the runway.
