Dave offered to buy it so we (KRNet) can give it to her, but I'll be 
glad to make the donation.  Just picture this: Oshkosh '99, the 
Rand-Robinson booth, and there's Jeanette Rand wearing a KRNet shirt! 
 I think it's good PR, and will only help to improve relations with 
them.  We're gonna do it...

Subject: Finally sat in my own KR

Yesterday was a great day. I finally sat in my own fuselage. I put in 
a temporary seat, attached the $11 Grumman Yankee instrument panel 
put the rudder pedals in place and sat there for about 15 minutes 
with a big grin on my face. I'm glad I widened my fuselage. It was so 
comfortable I think I might fall asleep at the wheel. 

I'm glad I hadnt installed the pedals or the pedal mounting blocks 
because in the plans they are shown too far forward. (I'm 5'8")
they need to be mounted behind the "B" station

But now back to business. Since my spam can (78 Archer - For Sale!)is 
a nosedragger, I'm going to make this one a nosegdragger as well for 
consistency.  I realized yesterday that this baby is prime for a side 
mounted control stick. There has been some discussion before on the 
kr-net previusly and was wondering if any one posted plans to their 
web site. If so could you please direct me to it.

Just got back from Sun & Fun last night.  Had a great time camping with Doug 
Steen and Mark Langford.  Thanks Doug for the ride in the bonanza.  Hell of 
an IFR pilot.

I'll relay some KR things I found that might help out.  Those of you still on 
the fence concerning brakes, just go ahead and call Bennett at Great Plains 
and order a set of his new brakes.  They will hold on runup, are light 
weight, very stout, and the price is right.  Don't even think about 
Cleveland's.

For positions lights I found Whelen wing tip lights model # A650 P/N 
01-0770053-00.  For those of you more concerned with being seen that night 
VFR (although I'll bet the designee will sign it off), order the parts 
individually so that you do not buy the strobe bulb.  Great Plains (and 
probably Radio Shack, I'll check on the today) fit into the globes and can be 
run off your electrical system of a battery supply.  You'll same big bucks 
and amps.

Found a great buy ($150.00, kind of a steal) on my ELT.  Brand new.

Saw the same big WAF that Mark and Dean are selling and will stand next to 
Mims and say..............don't even think of building your own or buying 
from someone else.  You won't come near the quality that these guys have.

You'll find out that if I find something, I really don't care if it's a 
modification, or a good deal, I'm going to tell everyone about it on the 
KRNet and really don't care what day it is:-).

Check with Dean Collette or Mark Langford.  THey seem to be ramping up
production of commonly used KR parts.  This would seem to be a good
hardware kit for them to offer.  Dean does his homework and has found
several shops that specialize in aircraft hardware to use as
sub-contractors.  His WAF's are a case in point.

Just made my reservations for the 99 gathering and they said that 
zero non kr rooms are available but 50 KR rooms are still available. 
I would assume people are waiting for july 25th for rooms to be

WAF - stands for Wing Attach Fitting.

In the case of the KR there are 32 of them.

The thing about the WAFs is that despite their simple appearance, there is

Dana is trying to bring me out of my shyness.  

Here is a simple idea for those of you trying to conserve amperage draws.  
Aircraft position lights consume 2 amps each, for a total of 6 amps or 8, 
depending on whether the white ones are on each wingtip or on the tail.  The 
aircraft bulbs have only one nub on the male socket.  I found that you can 
get 12 volt, 1 amp automotive tail light bulbs to fit if you file off one of 
the two nubs.  The bulbs will go in the aircraft socket, although they will 
be a little loose.  You can shim with something conductive if you wish, 
although I flew my VariEze for 200 hours with modified auto bulbs with no 
shims and they stayed in tact and worked fine.  This fix, plus a 1 amp Radio 
Shack burgelor alarm strobe allowed me to get buy with only a 12 amp 
alternator.

It's gonna be here before we know it. Can't wait!!!! Last year I was 
disappointed not to find Rand Robinson there with a KR booth and forums. Have 
any of you heard if Jeanette plans on having a booth and forums this year? 
Will there be a KR dinner? Sure hope more KR's show up this year than last (I 
saw only four).

Ok gang. I distilled the POSA manual I mentioned before. It is available via
anonymous ftp from
24.112.208.98

Log in using your email address as password. It is in the "pub" directory as
posa.pdf, about 500k.
