We have a new article on cowl fabrication coming out very soon in the Online Manual/FAQ. It's in the "polishing up" stages right now, but should be posted within the next several days. Great article. I like it. Also, Dr. Dean has allowed us to post a few of his tool tips to the Manual. By the way, for anyone that's interested, what looks like the laser level he describes in this article is on sale at Harbor Freight, including the beam spreader lens and bundled with a tripod, for $39.95. Yikes! They have some other lasers on sale, as well, but I haven't really looked at those. Search under Lasers on the Harbor Freight web site. On another topic: RONALD R. There's also an idea for elevator hinges, although I think Dr. Dean is about to solve that one for us. They're at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/snf99.html , or you can get to it from my personal web page (kmarkl.html). Thanks for the great trip, Doug! I hope to get back on N56ML in the next few months as the chaos at work is scheduled to subside somewhat. I'm working on the split flaps whenever I get little free time, but don't have any pictures posted yet. When I get one done I'll update the N56ML page... I don't think you'll get much heat out of an oil cooler in the winter (which is when you'd want it). I have an external cooler mounted above the transmission on my Karmann Ghia with 2110cc engine and even with an inline thermostat, I worry that the oil temperature is very low during Winter (never exceeds 80C). I would think that the fins on the bottom of the engine case and the other case surfaces are almost sufficient to cool the oil when it gets cold. 80C oil doesn't give you much heat transfer, especially considering how small the cooler is, compared to a hot exhaust pipe. Buy a carbon monoxide indicator, and use stainless steel pipe for your exhaust, and I'll bet you can quit worrying about CO.
