Is this the URL that you are trying to reach? http://users.erols.com/donreid/kr_SA.htm Make sure you don't have a typo in it. Do I need gas guages on the stub wing aux tanks. Would a strobe light puting out 100 candlepower meet specs as long as other criteria as to coverage be met. He said that home builts did not have to meet any airworthiness specifications so that as far as he is concerned, anything goes. No aux tank gas guages needed. He looked in the regs and saw no reason wht a 100 candlepower strobe would not be satisfactory. Looks like the Radio Shack strobe would pass, at least here. Really wish there was one answer to a question. Would make me feel safer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: The latest batch of Sport Aviation Articles. If you get to the address listed below but then have problems, you might try pushing the RELOAD (or REFRESH) button. http://users.erols.com/donreid/kr_SA.htm I know that several other people are saving these in other websites since I will not be keeping everthing on-line. The next batch will go up in about a week and the batch final will be about two weeks after that. I will be almost 68 years old by then, and hopefully Social Security will help me pay for a new set of Southco's ;o) And, since it's open-line Friday, a FWIW: I didn't get to this month's local EAA chapter meeting, but they flew down the new RV-9 from the "factory" to show it off. According to Paul Martin, it's basically a RV-6 fuselage with longer wings and a smaller engine. Aimed primarily for the European market where quieter is better. The factory demonstrator was made from a -6 that ate a bean field and lunched the wings, so they just took the fuselage and built up the -9 by adding new wings. Or at least that's how I understood it. Maybe you could explain in more detail what it is you plan to do? It sounds to me like you want to remove the main spar and all of the wing foam and glass forward of the rear spar. I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to do this as long as your new skin (fiberglass) laps onto the rear spar by a couple of inches. >> I'm going to take a guess at what you are trying to do also. If you are doing what Mike has mentioned above, the removal of the center forward spar is pretty easy. Use a wood chisel to separate the 5/8 blocks on the outside from the fuselage. Use the same chisel to separate the spar from the verticals on the inside, being careful not to damage these verticals. I did this on an aft center spar removal and it worked out great. The only thing you will have to do is dress up the inside of verticals and the outside 5/8" contact points so as remove all traces of the old glue. Your only other area to address will be the redrilling of the holes for WAFs, which should be a problem using the outer panels. I started my engine and ran it for about 15 minutes last evening. I have the landing gear problem fixed, I now have two positive lock pins and a gear crank that seconds as a third. If I get all my school homework out of the way tonight I will be taking my bird (N54PB) back out to Boulder City airport for continued engine runs. Oh Mike, I also have new paint. I should be back in the air within a week or two. Carlton, thanks for the reduction gear drawing, it looks interesting, keep us posted. Good luck to everyone who is currently building.
