Last winter (off season for us bricklayers in Canada), my partner and I got some real progress on the project and got to coat it in Imron. Last weekend we got around to shave the ailerons balancing weights. Per plans drawing, we should end up with a slight trailing edge high(before painting?...). Is "slight" precise enough or should we go differently on this? How about mounting the wings and setting the bird at -3* then balance the ailerons to conform to the airfoil contour of the wings? How did or will you guys go about it? So far we've considered this adventure a 3 partner deal: my brother, myself and Krnet for such a whealth of experience energy and contributing minds toward a common goal. Every time we got stucked we moved ahead by reading you thru the newsletter, the archives or other sources found thru Krnet. Many many thanks for keeping the spirit alive and our butts moving... ;o) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: ailerons balancing From: "Y. If you download Hello folks, I haven't found any info on this yet, but it appears to be a simple rewording of the frogger screen saver hoax that was circulating some months ago. I have sent a copy of this post to someone in IBM and also to CIAC the virus/hoax information center at the Federal Government DOE. If I learn anything new I'll let the KRnet owner know so as not to clutter up the list anymore. The only thing is that you glass the tips and the leading edge of the prop, or glass the whole thing. Carving out of fir is a far less work than one of maple, oak, cherry. You can carve one out of a soft wood like white pine if you glass the entire prop. Then you have a soft core prop wrapped by glass, which is very strong. This is just this one man's opinion, mine. Wierd stuff, but works good! When you open the can of blue stuff, it looks dried out, but once mixed with the white stuff it turns nice and smooth, and spreads nicely. I'll sand it tomorrow and see how it sands. I noticed (too late) in the promo literature that you can squeegee on some peelply right to the SuperFil, and rip it off when dry, just like a regular layup. I'll have to try that trick on another area I fill with the stuff. I will guarantee you two things: (1)It's way lighter than micro, and (2)It's way easier than micro to work with.
