A star is born ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Rides for the Gathering From: "Oscar Zuniga" Date: Wed, 01 Sep 1999 05:08:15 PDT X-Message-Number: 1 Hi, Netters Mike touched on this, but didn't come out and say it- but you guys who manage to score rides in somebody's KR should remember that some of them are shelling out pretty good bucks to get their KRs to the Gathering and probably wouldn't turn down some money to help with gas and expenses. Think of it as 0.5 hr. dual time in high-performance, like a Mooney or Bonanza, and pay accordingly. I think they pass the bucket around to help those who flew in and who gave rides, but don't hesitate to help out without being asked. And if you're just a dreamer or haven't gotten too far yet, don't worry if you don't get a ride or don't want to ask for one... just sit in somebody's KR after the chocks are back in. That's what I did in Paul Martin's KR- got to sit in it in his garage/workshop and it was a kick in the pants. Same thing with Mike's Sky Pig- he let me sit in it, and it was definitely motivating to see/feel a real KR wrapped around you. Try it, if the KR owner will let you sit in one that is close to the configuration you like (or even if it's not... you might change your mind about how you want to set yours up). And hey- if you didn't check out the pix of Haris' work over on Mike's page, be sure you at least see the last photo on Pg. 3- it's looking like a real airplane! Congratulations, Haris. To Charles at choctawcwr@aol.com From: "cleo greenhaw" Date: Wed, 1 Sep 1999 19:36:39 X-Message-Number: 12 Charles sorry about the 2 goofs. About the Loehle 51. When finished and completed, I have seen the 51 advertised for 13 to 18K. When Loehle sold the kits they assumed that the builder would retain the aircraft. The Rotax 582 that they recommend, cost the builder a bunch of money. Around $5000. That is a big part of the package. Some of us have chose the alternative engines ie the 3 or 4 cylinder Geo metro Engine. Which is a good engine made by Suzuki (the best part of the car) It is reliable and easy to maintain has a great TBO and doesn't sound bad. I am a expert on this engine conversion. Which means that I have made all of the mistakes possible. It runs great. I hope your project has the 4 cylinder engine. But I don't think I would pay that much money for it...Negociate. If it has a 3 cylinder engine I can put you in touch with some people who have installed the 3 cylinder engine in the 51. Let me know if I can help you. I would be glad to drive down from Ponca City, Ok. to help you. Cleo@fullnet.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Fw: KR2 Flight Characteristics?? It's easy to test. . . . I'm on another list for motorcycles, many of which also have fiberglass tanks. and several people there claim that MBTE (sp?) is the additive that damages fiberglass and that alcohol is fairly benign. Has anybody tried putting fiberglass layups into straight alcohol to see whether it really does any harm? I think the test for alcohol above was developed by the EAA not because alcohol damages fiberglass, but because it can damage the rubber parts in certified planes that get STC's for autogas. I wanted all 2.5" for my Long Eze and was partially lucky in a way. I found a 2.5 rate of climb, and a 2.5 Altimeter, the rate of climb was 200.00 or something like that but the Altimeter was 900.00 it was the first one I had seen like it and complained about the price so they showed me the book and the price of a new one was 10,000.00. This particular one is from a airline and is a backup for them rated to 50,000 ft, but again it is the only one I have seen, but I didn't look at Oshkosh this year. I never have seen any 2.5 gyros but maybe there are some. If you find some please let me know if there are any after you are finished picking through them.
