From: Mark Jones Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 12:52:17 -0500 X-Message-Number: 2 HI KR's Shortly after I last updated my web site, it crashed at the server's end. They now have it back up and running after being down for a week. For all of those who e-mailed me saying you could not access my site, you should now be able to with no problems. From: Mark Jones Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 13:11:36 -0500 X-Message-Number: 3 Hi KR'ers, I left Lake Barkley this morning at 3:30am for an eight hour drive back home. Made only two stops, one for fuel and one to ?????? Took me ten hours to get there!!! This was my first KR Gathering and I can't express what an exceptionally GREAT bunch of people there are in the KR world! To be able to meet people who you e-mail, have heard about, talked on the phone with or have seen their plane in a web site, simply made the whole perspective of the KR family come together. I had never imagined this event would have been so much fun and educational. I came home with all the ideas I need to complete my 2S!!! For those of you who were not able to attend, Lake Barkley Resort is beyond words of description. Just this morning as I left there were ten deer along the first mile to bid me good-bye. The scenery is unmatched and the landscape is astounding. All the stress within one is quickly removed at this resort. If you did not make it, please make plans for next year. The 2000 gathering will be at Lake Barkley. You will not regret it. As for myself, I plan on attending every Gathering from here on out regardless of the location. I have not enjoyed a weekend as much as I did this one in many years. Just had to get that off my chest! Mark Jones (N886MJ) Waukesha, WI flykr2s@execpc.com http://sites.netscape.net/flykr2s/homepage ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Back from the Gathering - WOW From: Steven Eberhart Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 14:32:44 -0500 (CDT) X-Message-Number: 4 Just got home from the Gathering. Dana, you out did yourself! THis year was great. Airplanes? So many beautiful KR's the ramp was covered with them. We all got to see the Corvair engine that has smitten Mark Langford so hard. William Wynne drove all night to get to the Gathering from Florida and was answering questions at 8:00 AM. Troy Peteway was there with his KR-2 with the new KRnet laminar flow airfoil. About 11:00 Friday Troy called in over the radio and said he was directly over the field at 20,000 feet and cruising around 300 kts. For those of us that have been working on the new airfoil we all looked in amaizment at each other until he mentioned that he was in the pilots seat of his day job - a Beech Kingair. He was on the way to Chicago but would be back to Columbia, TN to pick up his plane later in the day. Sure enough he arrived around 4:30 Friday. I will let the others with the digital cameras fill in the details. Troy was about the last KR to leave the field today. As Jeanette Rand and I watched Troy take off, we wondered what he was going to do. Well the takeoff was normal - It was the high speed pass that he did down the runway next that caused each of us to smile to the other. At the end of the runway he pulled up into about a 30 degree climb and did a victory roll followed by a peel off as he headed toward Columbia TN. A perfect way to end a great gathering. Video Bob had already left so you wont be seeing the victory roll on the video but for those of us still there - we still have the smile on our faces. Thanks everyone for a great weekend. Steve Eberhart mailto:newtech@newtech.com THE WING FLIES! - http://www.newtech.com/nlf for info on the new, flight tested, KRnet/UIUC airfoils. Good job KRnet, you can be proud of your contribution to Sport Aviation. Special thanks to Dr. Ashok Gopalarathnam and Dr. Michael Selig for some great Sport Aviation airfoils. I will now concentrate on getting my bird ready for the flight to Barclay. All it really needs at this time is the paint job. Happy to hear all went well at the gathering. How many planes were there? We had a pilot stop here for fuel with a Grumman. He told me he had just come from Barklay where he had stopped for fuel and had seen at least 15 KR's. He was impressed. (I think). Today I bolted up the new gear and took her off the saw horses. I pushed her out into the California sun and man does that new gear look GOOD! I don't think it could have come out any better.
