From: "James Nelson" Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 10:56:57 -0500 X-Message-Number: 2 Hi everyone! Has anyone has tried to build a monocoque KR with an all Composite fuselage; carbon/kevlar/glass/honeycomb? I have experience with 4130 frames as well as composites. I was thinking of building a monocoque KR2S and would like people's opinions on this. Thanks, James Below are links to photos of some of the things I have done: http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/nelson/33/tne1993/img0013.jpg http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/nelson/33/tne1993/img0029.jpg http://www.eng.uml.edu/Dept/solar/spirit93.gif http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/bleck/images/tne/tneIII/post_image.cgi?tne_at_s unracye.jpg http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/bleck/images/tne/tneIII/post_image.cgi?TNE3Pike sPeak.JPG ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: KR2S with monocoque chassis? has anyone tried it? There are two KRs at my airport, one with a 2070 Revmaster and he runs a 52X51 (Sterba) and the other has a GPASC 2180 and it runs a 52X48 (Sterba). They both turn pretty much the same RPM. Now go figure that one out! :o) I think the 52X48 is a good prop to start with. I thought you were planning a DD Subaru Turbo? --- Richard Parker wrote: > What size props are you guys typically running on > the 1835's vs 2100's > on kr2s. From: Mike Mims Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 09:08:38 -0800 X-Message-Number: 5 Yesterday we sprayed the top coat on the rudder to test paint compatibility. So far the results are good. So I guess I can say I have started painting my bird and that IS a milestone! :o) Maybe having paint on this thing by Christmas is doable. Then I can permanently mount the engine when I get back from vacation and its all down hill from there. The 2000 gathering is a possibility at this point. -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Micheal Mims Sanding and Filling AGAIN! :o( http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/270/ http://members.home.com/mikemims/ Aliso Viejo CA ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: RE: KR2S with monocoque chassis? has anyone tried it? From: "Capps Family" Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 18:10:32 -0600 X-Message-Number: 6 YES, the KR's fuselage could be built using 1/4" or 3/8" urethane foam ( I prefer 3/8" min) - layup 1 bid & 1 uni inside and out. The firewall would be made from 1/4" plywood (5 layer), remember in most composite planes the firewall does not act as a motor mount. Larry Larry A.
