The turbo isnt on it yet. I want to get a wood prop for some static testing and flush any bugs out of my engine before I put the turbo on. I figure I'd get one that I could resell to someone on this list after I'm done with it and before I buy the warp drive. Rich P >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Richard if varys depending on prop maker but the 1835s run a 52x42-48 (again depending on make) and the 2180s run 52X48-51. There are two KRs at my airport, one with a 2070 Revmaster and he runs a 52X51 (Sterba) and the other has a GPASC 2180 and it runs a 52X48 (Sterba). They both turn pretty much the same RPM. Now go figure that one out! :o) I think the 52X48 is a good prop to start with. I thought you were planning a DD Subaru Turbo? --- Richard Parker wrote: >What size props are you guys typically running on >the 1835's vs 2100's >on kr2s. Around here the aluminum sheet handled by the gutter installers that make their own gutters comes in .027 and .033 in both black and white. They buy it in rolls 18" wide and 100 feet long. Every one of them has a scrap pile of cut off sheets that can be had for the asking. Even Home Depot sells matching spray paint. Just finished a mount for my gas valve for my wing tanks to mount to the front of the main spar. Even though it didn't need it, I painted it to cover the bolt heads. Will be working on a cover for the gasolator and Facut fuel pump on the firewall for radiant heat protection. It can't get any better than free. This is sold in strips that are 72 inches long and cost $12 US. All I had to do was cut the pieces to length and drill the holes. The 4130 from AS&S is in the normalized state which is 90,000 psi, I think. Surely this is enough for the WAFs. If its not one of you engineers let me know so I can rip my wings apart. I used a uni-bit to drill the larger holes and it works great as long as you keep the RPMs very low and use lots of oil. Try to get your hands on at least one WAF to use as a template for drilling your holes. I have one around here somewhere if you can figure out how I can get it too you let me know. --- "Stefan B." wrote: > I have bought some annealed 4130 steel sheet and I > am constructing my WAF's and > gear leg fittings. Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 19:37:02 +0100 X-Message-Number: 7 Mike, Thanks for the instant answer and for your proposal. My problem is that I can't work with AS&S (after ordering 3 times their catalog without any answer I just decided to find something else). So, I had to buy a 105 lb., 2 m x 1 m x 3 mm 4130 plate available here only in annealed condition. It is 75,000 psi and is really easy to work. I could cut all my WAF's and gear leg fittings in 1h30 with my portable grinder. Now I am finishing drilling all the bolt holes of the 16 WAF's using a normal bit at 1000 rpm. I use each WAF as a model for the next. If someone has any ideas what kind of a modern-art monument I could build with the left 80 lb. of 4130 plate, just let me know... Stefan Balatchev. P.S. Is the uni-bit is the same as the masonry bit? Mike Mims wrote: > Stefan, to save time I bought the 1.5 inch wide 4130 > strips from Aircraft Spruce(part # 03-19800). Very few KRs fly 200 mph straight and level. Actually very few fly 180 mph straight and level. The ones that I have seen obtain this speed were running a 100hp O-200 Continental. Roy Marshs KR2 with a 80 hp Revmaster Turbo would do 180mph but he also had a faster airfoil (23012). There may be a VW powered KR out there somewhere that does 200 mph but 155 to 160 is more like it. Heck the 2180 VW powered KR2S are cruising around 140 mph. If you think your gonna cruise at 180 to 200 mph on a VW you might want to re-think! :o) By the way the two KR2s at my airport cruise about 135 to 145 mph and they have 2180s installed. -- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Micheal Mims Sanding and Filling AGAIN! :o( http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/270/ mirror @ http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/4136/ http://members.home.com/mikemims/ Aliso Viejo CA ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: KR2S Speed -vs- Hp From: "James Nelson" Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 23:01:26 -0500 X-Message-Number: 12 > If you think your gonna cruise at 180 to 200 > mph on a VW you might want to re-think! :o) I'm re-thinking.
