I guess since it's the end of the year, it's OK to start a small whine about supporting KRNet. This list and the KRNet site are supported by voluntary contributions from you, the netters. While there are no dues per se, contributions of $10 are the nominal annual amount and the hat is usually passed at the annual KR Gathering. But as we know, most of us don't make it to that affair, so contributions are OK anytime from anybody. The top banana, admin-wise, is Ross Youngblood and checks may be made out to him. He tirelessly and fearlessly administrates and moderates this list, from the comfort of his hot tub. [Ross, please post your new address in sunny Arizona for those who missed it and want to get checks sent out to you.] And please Ross- go ahead and deposit the checks we send, OK? It's nice of you to hold the checks until the payment is due, but mine is still outstanding from this past summer! And to close out one other subject- I've responded privately to those who commented or inquired about the subject of aircraft registration; sorry to throw that in but I was stoked about getting my N-number! Here in Kansas we start to pay personal property taxes when the first stick of spruce is bought, but talk to 10 different tax people and you get 10 different answers as to how they value the project. Best answer is tooooo high. Kansas monitors aircraft registrations with the FAA and you get a cheerful note in the mail soon afterward. I personnally will not apply for registration until my KR hits the runway! Mabey someone smarter than I should add a registration section to the online manual listing those states that tax projects. I my case they lost the first application, so it took 180 days. Without a "N" number, you don't fly. So you need to plan a few months ahead. It would be good to get that part done so you won't be held up later. On another note, I have waited with baited breath to read what some responses to some questions on the net might be only to find out they were answered off-line by personal e-mail.. Sometimes in trying to be net-nice the thing the nets supposed to be about gets lost.. Youngblood" Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999 12:59:57 +0000 X-Message-Number: 8 Oscar, I have recieved several complaints about checks that I have been holding on to. I try to keep KR-net funds seperate from my stuff so that I can tell if I need a call for help. Actually, I just got around to transfering the cashiers check from Oregon into a bank account here after 60 days. Things have been that hectic around here. They should settle down after our house in Oregon sells and we can move out of this small apartment here. (Not to mention I can go back to Oregon and pick up my KR then). We are paid up until next September, and I really don't want to have to mess with more checks right now, but if somone wants to send funds now, here is the information: KR-net, checks payable to: Ross Youngblood 411 N Kyrene Rd Apt 153 Chandler, Az 85226 Those who have written checks payable to KR-net have created a bit of a problem. My bank stopped accepting these until I get a "dba" account (Doing Business As). I haven't finished seeing if I can get a DBA savings account only, as I don't have enough money going in and out to pay for a business checking account. To get free checking requires that I go through a lot of registration for KR-net as a non-profit, and you wouldn't believe the level of paperwork that requires.... However, if anyone would be interested in serving on the Board of Directors for a KR-net non-profit orginization, email me seperately. It would come in handy in case I decide to get us setup officially that way to have names already available. So, to summarize. We are paid up till 9/00, and I don't need more donations, but if you want to send some, I will try to deposit it in a more timely manner than I have recently. -- Ross Oscar Zuniga wrote: > Ross wrote: > >Anytime you make a purchase by going to Amazon.com > >via the krnet links kr-net gets a small percentage (up to 5%). > > I guess since it's the end of the year, it's OK to start a small whine about > supporting KRNet. The decal will be about 5"x5" and may be suitable for sticking on your toobox, your KR, or a big bumper sticker, I'm not sure as I haven't seen them yet. We get a price break if I can order 48, and another price break at 100. If you are interested, let me know. Looks like they will sell for $10.00 ea, and I will be able to give them as "Thank You's" for KR-netters who donate $20.00 in 2000. Email me directly mailto:rossy@teleport.com, if you may want to be on the list to recieve some from the first batch! This is the reason that I decided to wait until 2000 to apply. I plan to fly in 2000 so if I am taxed for that year its no big deal. I know guys in California that thought it would be neat to apply as soon as they start building and have since spent many days each year trying to tell the tax man that he or she really doesnt have a plane. > On Wed, 29 Dec 1999 10:49:27 EST RFG842@aol.com > writes: > > Excellent point Oscar, and one that Mark made last > summer. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I got a notice from the state that I had to pay tax on my plane. I called the tax office in Tallahassee and they asked me what I paid for the aircraft and I told them it was incomplete and that I paid some sum of money for the plans. The guy said that was fine and charged me tax on the cost of the plans. I didn't offer the information on the projected cost of the project. That saved me a bundle. Happy New Year. Youngblood" Date: Thu, 30 Dec 1999 00:35:21 +0000 X-Message-Number: 16 William, It is both enjoyable, and it also seems to go on with no end in sight. After 11 years you can understand the no end in sight. It has become more than a hobby and almost a lifestyle. I am obsessed with flying, at least that's what my wife says. The statistics when I started my project were that 80% of folks who start out to build an experimental aircraft never complete it. So I consider that it is normal to see that it looks like you will never complete it, and occasionally want to give it up. However, I'm glad I have stuck with it and eventually I will be flying mine. Most of the money I put into my project was for the engine and instruments. The KR is a great project in the sense that you can buy as you go, and have multiple portions under construction at any given time even on a limited budget. To be happy with your decision, you should try to find someone who has one and try to sit inside it to see what it will be like. I haven't finished mine yet, but if it is anything like the experience of getting my private pilots license, it will be terrific every time I think about the accomplishment.. Plus people will eventually refer to you as "that guy who is building an airplane". Eventually this will refer to someone with respect, but at first you will be wondering if its just another way to indicate that you are nuts. I love working with my hands, and found that the early stages of construction were a terrific diversion from work related issues. I think there are probably a lot of "better" kits available, but there is somthing about the KR that I like that is missing from other kits. Also, there is somthing to be said for looking at an airplane that came to your house in a series of UPS boxes and crates, that you pieced together over weekends and nights listening to the radio. I can't wait to get back into a house with a garage and finish mine. -- Regards Ross William Kane wrote: > Its between a KR and 1 other, as someone who is just about to enbark > on this journey, I'd like to ask you all how you feel about your projects. > >From the money spent and to be spent to the time involved.
