Of course I spent the first hour explaining the airframe to him and his aerospace engineer wife, and gave them the "low down" on the design and my modifications to it. The plan was to tune the length of the dipole legs and cable length for optimal standing wave ratio. After about 10 seconds of fiddling around at the target of 123MHz, he announced in a reverent tone of voice, "don't touch a thing!". At that frequency the SWR was 1.1 to 1, and in the aircraft band it never got any worse than 2 to 1. He was thoroughly impressed. I guess Jim Wier knows what he's talking about! I made the legs per RST instructions in the vertical stab, and can pick up traffic in the pattern at Cullman airport 40 miles away (from inside my basement) so I guess it's "good enough for KR work". The update on the installation is at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/kmarkl.html#update , which I announced the other day, but there are 130 more KRNetters on line now. My fuel transfer line from the wing tanks to the header tank stops about 2 inches from the top of the header tank. If I fuel all three tanks full, in about 5 minutes the wing tanks will start dripping and will continue to overflow until the header tank is down to the top of the fuel transfer line. I'll be making it Thursday and maybe Friday. I talked to Sam Sayer (building KR #2 in Zephyr Hills Florida) the other day and he says he always meets KR builders at the "Sea Dart" Sunday at noon. I'm afraid I don't know where the Sea Dart is, but it sounds like something that probably everybody else down there would know... It is on static display outside one of the buildings where they have the company booths. It should also be on a map of Sun-N-Fun.
