Instead of the foam ribs, mine are built per the Diehl plans using 1/4 inch plyfoam. (1/4 inch foam with a single layup of glass on each side) You use a wire brush to "eat" out some of the 1/4 inch foam between the glass plies, then fill the area with flox to glue the skins on. It was simple and straight forward to do. The instructions with the skins were adequate. I don't know what method is recommended with Jeannette's premolded skins. Well, it is too early to give some results as I am still at the "boat-spars" stage and my wing loading is higher than for a stock KR. However, I decided to use plain or split flaps on the stub wings for more drag on landing and single-slotted flaps (or may-be drooping slotted ailerons) on the outer wings for better performance on go-arounds. I think that a good approximation of the performance of the AS504x airfoils could be found in "The Theory of Wing Sections" looking at the charts for 64-215, 65-215 and similar laminar airfoils. Let's wait for the first flights of Mark Langford to see the effect of his huge split flaps on the AS5046 airfoil... Have you seen http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/owings.html ? Were I to do it again, I'd probably use extruded piano hinge mounted directly to the spar, as I'd originally planned, and as shown at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/flap.gif . Mine aren't flight tested yet, but I would think you could count on lowering landing speed by 5 mph or so. And if you go with split flaps, the drag will shorten the landing distance considerably by shortening the time in ground effect. Flap handle for my setup is on the rear face of the main spar. I know you've got some replies, but no solutions so here goes. How much room do you have below the bottom of your forward deck on the aft side of your firewall? My thinking is you might be able to fabricate some brackets that have longer "legs" that would flush up against the firewall and allow you to bolt, or use nutplates, say two inches or so below the top of the firewall. This might be far enough down that you could get to the drill holes on the inside of the firewall, below your forward deck. At a point nearer to the top of the bracket, drill a hole through the bracket and partially through the firewall. Insert a rivet, pin, bolt or whatever into this hole so that it extends partially into your firewall. This would keep the long legged bracket from pivoting. Just a thought from someone who has who has gone "a little too fast, too soon"...........more that once:-). Let us know how it comes out.
