A few, like the Pitts special have it much further forward, and are really squirrely. I think we need a bolt-on replacement for the Diehl gear legs that would gain us some tail weight (balance). We have asked Rand Robinson if the MTOW could have been higher and the answer was basically no; 1050 lbs should be the real gross with limited g-forces (4,5 g if my memory works well). Regarding engine mount we have all bought it directly from Rand Robinson. CG is within the limits, but very close to the front. I have a prop extension and that does not help; to keep the tail on the ground I had to add 2 kg of lead over the tailweel mount. Having such a light tailweel caused me some serious problems landing on a wet field, few weeks ago, while stall characteristics were allways very good. I hope this few notes can be helpfull, and me too would like to hear about other builders experiences Camillo KR2S Italy ----- Original Message ----- From: Leonardo To: Ross Youngblood ; Cc: KRNET Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2000 10:31 PM Subject: Re: KR> O-200 > hello kr people > > After searching for a long time for a engine to my kr2s i,ve decided to > change the vw the was already installed in my beauty , to a continental > o-200 . the engine is in my garage and now comes the most dificult part . > engine mount, cg location , nose heavy , new cowl and lots of things. well > ,what i really need is help from you guys. > topics: > 1)- will i need to put weigth on the tail ? > 2) - what prop to use ,since i had a 54x52 on 75 hp and now 100 hp and no > more than 60" of clearence? 2 blades, 3 blades ? > 3)- with 75 lbs more will the plane be good only for one person? This is one of the prices you pay for building a fiberglass/foam airplane. Darker colors build up too much heat and cause all sorts of problems with wet layup type airplanes like the KR. If you have all the new pre-preg stuff from RR then you can just about paint it any color you want. -- __________________ Micheal Mims Trying to get this thing done! http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/anchor/270/ http://explanes.com/ Aliso Viejo Ca ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 May 2000 22:38:22 ADT To: krnet@mailinglists.org From: "Gaston Landry" Subject: Re: KR> painting Message-ID: <20000508013822.90702.qmail@hotmail.com> >From: david barner >Subject: KR> painting > >OK guys I need some ideas here. I also want to know what type of paint I should >use? I read in Kitplanes May 2000, "Time To Paint" (P. 86), and I quote: "If you are building a composite, the (paint) manufacturer is likely to recommend a lighter color. The goal is to minimize surface temperatures, eliminating the possibility of structural weakening or damage from heat. For example, if the outside air temperature is 80°F, a red finish will generate a surface temperature of 200°F in bright sunlight where white will yield only 130°F." That having been said, since the 'boat' of the KR-2 is wood, while the turtleback is composite, maybe you could use the purple on the bottom, with a really nifty fade to white (or yellow) once you get to the composite, with yellow wings as well. just my $.02 on the subject. (keep in mind, I'm just a pilot/KR-owner wannabe, so I have no actual practical experience in the matter) Gaston g_landry73@hotmail.com NB, Canada. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 09:12:01 -0300 To: , From: "Leonardo" Subject: Re: KR> painting Message-ID: <005b01bfb8e6$9ee59c60$df69fea9@estacao1> hello David. i painted my beauty all white whit red and grey stripes like the new cesna . it is pretty. The Extra 300 aerobatic planes have some blue. I also decided to leave off the big red star on the tail... perhaps a blue one. -- Ross david barner wrote: > OK guys I need some ideas here. Maybe its time for you to check it out and see if you have the answers?!?! If you haven’t checked it out please do so, especially if you are one of the KRNet members who misses the “hanger talk” element of the mailing list. Keep in mind I did not create this forums page to replace Krnet. I wanted to create sort of a virtual hanger for anyone and everyone that loves to build and fly eXperimental airplanes to hang out. This is not just for KR builders or VW engine builders. Check it out and invite your friends! :o) This page will grow and more features will become available once I move to the registered version of the BB software. Also access speeds will increase once moved to a WHS. You can get there at http://www.explanes.com and clicking on the forums link or go directly to the forums at http://24.5.34.97/ubb/Ultimate.cgi have fun and share your stories, knowledge and pictures. If you decide to post please read the faq first, it will answer a lot of questions. BTW There are a few VW questions as well as Subaru questions so William and Steve feel free to drop by. :o) ===== ........| .......-^- ....-/_____\- ...(O\__o__/O) ...[#]oxxxo[#] -----Y2K Bug--- Yes I drive one! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
