Message-ID: <001f01c00346$11436f40$ce851a3f@computer> Ok here is what I have found out using the Warp Drive 3 Blade ground adjustable prop. First of all I contacted Warp Drive and they said that with a 2 blade the O-200 was too much. So I bought the 60" 3 blade. MISTAKE!!! The first try was at 28 deg. this would theoretically 200 mph top with 160 mph cruise. It would only turn 1600 rpm static. So I reset it to 17 Deg. and only turned 2250 rpm. I cut 2" off each blade yealding a 56" dia. prop and 2450 rpm static. Reset prop to 20 deg. ( 64 " pitch ) and got 2300 rpm static. Result was 25" hg @ 2750 rpm & 152 mph indicated. Next I reset it to 23 deg. ( 74.6 " pitch )Static 2150 rpm 28" hg 150 mph @ 2500 rpm max. reset to 22 deg. (71" pitch ) 160 mph @ 2750 rpm 26" hg. 150 mph 2500 rpm @ 25" hg. Conclusion, I'm going back to a 2 blade Sterba prop ( when Martin Roberts gives it back ). $750 mistake but that is why they call it experimental aviation. Hope I saved someone some money. I think your best bet would be to send a cashiers check in US funds for the plans if you can't reach RR. I'm not sure that they accept credit cards, (I don't recall), I have next week off, and may be visiting my Sister and Brother-in-Law in Santa Barbara California, if I go, I may stop by RR and sit in the KR. I will know next week if I am going, and I will ask Jeanette about your plans. > > 2. If you can't hotwire polyurethane because of cyanide fumes, what about an > in - flight fire? That will kill anybody outright? We had a great discussion a few years back on the 'net on this topic... we beat it to death until we had what we call a "dead horse" topic. I think if you have an in-flight fire, the heart attack is more likely to kill you than the fumes from the polyurethane foam, which are probably going to be in the slipstream of your aircraft. The thread we discussed was a post crash fire, and autopsy which somehow got us speculating on cyanide as a cause... however smoke inhalation could have been anything besides the cyanide. > > 3. I think that Ashok being a PhD, and the fact that KR-net paid for wind tunnel testing of the airfoil carries more weight than an endorsement from RR might, at least in a technical sense. From a legal liability sense, I don't think RR will endorse the new airfoil until there are more in the air. > > 6. I may be badly mistaken, but I believe cyanide is often the culprit in many smoke inhalation deaths as it is very frequently produced in structure fires, including aircraft. So, if the foam isn't producing cyanide, something else will anyway. Probably save you a lot of suffering in the (not so) long run. Ross, I'd like to hear what Jeanett says if you do get to talk to her. I also have a set of plans from about 93 that I'd like to get KR2S supplements and updates for and get registered in my name. I was also thinking, what do I do at 100 hour or annual inspection time, when I want to inspect the bolts for wear? What about preflight? I have some KR shots on my website that show a close up of a rather large hinge gap on the Gullwing KR which I snapped at Copperstate about 10 years ago. I have gaps on mine, but you can only access them when the control is fully deflected in one direction or another... it helps on drag (I think), but is VERY nasty access wise. I think the big ugly gaps in the photo I took are the KISS principle solution, easy access, easy inspection, easy to fix. -- Ross Jim Morehead wrote: > Hi, > I'm ready to install the elevator and rudder bolts. This is from the pre-encoding days, and is more suited as a boat anchor than a transponder, but perhaps someone can use it for parts? The face plate is in reasonable condition. Let me know if you want it, otherwise its in the trash on Tuesday.
