My own web site is devoted to my Adult foster care home that my wife, Jo and I run. If you care to check out what I look like so you'll know who is sending messages, my picture is on the site at Since that picture was taken, I've lost about 20 lbs and Jo has lost about 30lbs and learned to open her eyes. We are trying to get down to a combined weight of about 300 lbs so we can fit into a KR2S. I am using the Dr. Dean hinge. My questions concern the foam between the H.S. and el. Should I do this area first so that I can remove the bearings for easier sanding maybe putting a drop of epoxy to hold the washer in place, then drill for the bearings.... Or do the interior H.S. foam first, then the other and just deal with sanding around the bearings. Same questions for the el re the eyebolts although I guess they are actually buried in the foam and have to be cut/exposed later anyway. With the stock H.S. tapering to 5/8", does one, for example sand the foam with something like a 1/2" PVC pipe, then gradually increase the size? Thanks. My questions concern >the foam between the H.S. and el. I did not use that hinge style, but ... I put four half-round ribs on front of the spar before it was assembled. One at each end and the other pair near the center. I also used one long rod as a hinge pin during the assembly and glass work. This makes it easy to get things apart when you are ready. Sand and glass the outside all as one piece, then cut the elevator out. Sand down the foam using the half-round ribs and glass that. Then add some foam on the back of the front spar and sand it to fit the rounded leading edge of the elevator. Cover the rounded leading edge with four or five plies of duct tape to serve as a release surface and glass the inside of the recess. The duct tape will release from the epoxy and then leave a uniform gap. I'm on Corvaircraft too and usually get swamped between the two nets. I haven't had any posts but yours for a couple of days.
