The article was about 51 % build to qualify Phil; read the article carefully. I don't have the story in front of me, but I believe much of the information there is referring to how it is determined if a kit can comprise an airplane the majority of which is amateur built. The purpose of using that checklist is when an airplane is built using subassemblies or "quick build" kits. Things like the Breezy also fall in that realm, since they use stock wings off of another airplane. If you build it from scratch, you'll comply. If you buy some pre-made skins, cowling, gear, engine, mount, and other such sub-assemblies, you'll still comply. Heck, some of the quick-build kits even come with most of the fuselage assembled... and still comply. Unless I'm mistaken, that checklist is used to evaluate kits for "majority built" compliance. Youngblood" Subject: Blowing Dust, Insurance, and Ground Crews Message-ID: <3AE39B17.A2CFA0F0@home.com> I've flown of 10 hours in the Mooney, and now have my "Complex and Retract" endorsement! Well, all except for forgetting my Logbook, so I am planning on having lunch with my instructor Wednesday so he can sign it for me. I'll let everyone know what having an IFR rating, 250 hours, and retract time does for my insurance. I just sent off my info to Sky Smith to update my KR insurance for its renewal later this year. I currently have ground only coverage, and am planning on getting "in-motion" coverage added effective 5-1-01. Actually I'll just call Sky Smith when I'm ready, and get the binder. Ellison sent me a new manual and mixture arm for my EFS-2 carb... I've got to get the mixture hooked up so I can start blowing dust out here again. The Ellison manual has a lot of good tips for doing engine performance ground checks prior to your first flight. You can go to their website http://www.ellison-fluid-systems.com/manual/manual.htm to review it, or order a copy from them for a couple of bucks. It's not available as pdf or doc format so it is a pain to print from the web, but the same informationn is on the web as in my hardcopy manual. I need to review my Great Plains manual too for my VW... anyone have any good tips on EGT/CHT numbers to watch for during static ground tests. Other things to think about? I will be tuning my Ellison on the VW first before doing any actual "in-motion" work... this could take a couple of days/weeks. I'm trying to get a ground crew together for this stuff, moving from Oregon, I haven't hooked up with the local EAA, so I lost my great ground support team & network. Plus all those guys were pilots and had headsets, coolers etc. I really am kicking myself from moving away from a hangar, and all the local airport folks you meet while you are tinkering on your project. Any folks who are considering the hangar route I recommend it! I haven't really decided if I want to leave my KR tied down for weeks at a time out in the airport, and trailering/untrailering is going to be a real pain. I'm thinking of buying a small ATV wench for my trailer, to make one-man rigging a little easier, and of course, I can always re-snoop out the hangar situation. I guess I will try and attend a local EAA meeting just to see who is out here locally. I really miss my old EAA buddies, hopefully the new bunch here will be as good. -- Regards Ross ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 23:38:38 EDT To: krnet@mailinglists.org From: Clay1Pilot@aol.com Subject: Re: KR> I am still searching Message-ID: <57.14d9933f.2814fdbe@aol.com> --part1_57.14d9933f.2814fdbe_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I am still looking for a completed kr 1,2,or2s for sale send me any leads you may have thank you --part1_57.14d9933f.2814fdbe_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 00:15:57 EDT To: krnet@mailinglists.org From: Laheze@aol.com Subject: KR2s Over Texas Flyin Message-ID: Don't forget the KR or whatever you have flying, fly in this coming weekend at Thompson Field.
