I recently purchased an old KR2... It's flown 450 hrs, but needs some =
work. I'm in the process of sanding her down, and have come across some =
cracks in the glass of the wing. Any idea about the best ways to fix =
this? Thanks,
Jeff

I'm new to this list and haven't seen any postings prior to today. I was
wondering if there are any KR2 builders or owners in the Harrisburg, PA
area. I'm reasonably certain I will be starting a KR2-S in the next 6-12
months but before making that final decision my father and I would like to
see one up close and in person.
Thanks,
Rick

G'day, netters-
Just wondering if anyone knows what the nominal CFM ratings are for the 1617
and 1821 carbs (Zenith) offered by Great Plains?
BTW- there are some snazzy photos of the VW rear drive setup, intake
manifold, exhaust, and engine mounts for the rear drive setup on Great
Plains' website, at http://www.greatplainsas.com/newproduct.html (also on
thier Beetle Flyer page). Full color; nice!

Mark: I know what you mean, you use all of the techniques you have heard
about over the years to avoid excessive sanding and still end up sanding
your butt off trying to get a nice smooth surface for the primer and paint.
When you find yourself in the air on your first flight, you will look back
and think it was all worth it.

$415
it appears. Does anyone have a VW Cowling they would want to sell me?
I'm considering giving my cowling one more night of fussing before I
throw
in the towel. I built it too tight, and it is a real pain to get on and
off.
(the lower section.) With the modifications to my carb intake, it needs
some glassing work, but it looks like I am going to have to make major
surgery, and I'm thinking I'd really like to get flying now.

It sounds like you are asking about the Wick's built KR2. That was back
about 1974 and it appeared on the cover of Sport Aviation right after
Oshkosh that year. I made colored copies of it and presented them to
Jeanette Rand at the last Gathering along with copies of Ken's KR2 that
appeared in the same issue. I don't recall it being built in "a few
weeks" but they put it together in a rather short time (as compared to
the 10 years I've been working on mine.) I recall Jerome Hedinger (sp)
from Wick's saying they cut it up at some point for liability reasons.

There is an ULTRALIGHT plan that uses Aluminum Ladders

had it on his website but I lost the address. Thought
it was on my favorites, cant find it.
Can't wait for the Sakrete instant concrete plane...

so ya gotta KR project for sale, eh? With no price.
Take a hint from Mr. Schmidt in KS, who is continually
advertising his project...with no price. We keep
seeing Mr. Schmidt, month after month...
You want a buck for the whole thing? I'm in. You
want a million bucks for a fuse-stage project? I'm
probably not in.
Point is, if you want to move it, set a price. Why
should I even bother to email you if I'm thinking
$2000.00, and you're thinking ten grand?

Plug one end and fill it with sand. Pack the sand and fill it
again. Plug the other end. Bend the tubing on a tube bending tool. You
can make the tool yourself. It should look just like a segment of aircraft
pulley, but sized to fit the tubing.
The sand keeps the tubing from collapsing.
Test it on scrap first.

willing to sell the finished and flying KR separately from the other =
parts, which include full plans for the 2S, but I want to sell all the =
parts together. I am asking $12,500.00 for N839BG and have already sent =
several photo e-mails out to inquiries. I tried to attach a bit map =
photo but the mail came back so I'll have to send them off the net at =
request. As the components go for the second KR, I was given a boat and =
spars from an older gentleman in my EAA chapter to tinker around with =
and I thought I'd like to stretch the fuselage to a 2S but it would be =
easier to start from scratch. I bought all the other stuff in one chunk =
from an EAA chapter in Illinois and it is all new stuff. I am asking =
$1,800.00 firm for all of it, that is what I paid them. I priced =
everything out new if I were to build even at last years prices and =
everything would have cost me over $4,500.00 so I thought it was a fair =
price. As I said before I can ship UPS from my business. I can send a =
complete inventory of the parts on request. You don't have to take the =
boat if not interested it was separate from the other stuff anyway. =
Thanks for understanding and the patience!!!

Dow Der (From Wicks -- Cheap)
Aeropoxy (From Wicks & Aircraft Spruce, more expensive, but wets cloth
better and is probably stronger)

West System: certainly strong enough and available locally at West Marine
(has fast and slow hardners, pumps, fumed silica, other cool stuff that's
too heavy to fly).
