Excellent article by Mark > Langford and great pictures of Pete Rafferty's KR-2. Thanks Frank (and Mark Jones earlier), but I mostly just did the reporting. Steve did the real work, and KRNetters did much of the financing. The only part that I might take credit for was giving Steve the idea that the RAF48 left some room for improvement. In fact, he's the one responsible for getting the story into Sport Aviation, although it'd been on the web for years. The web version has some new pictures and some new charts that Ashok did just for the SA article which directly compare the RAF48 to the AS5045 (which is about the same as the 46) , which somehow didn't get published, so check them out at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/airfoil.html . I'll bet KR2S plans sales will spike for a few months... IM going to try Ed prop and repitch the props inc. its nice prop workmanship is first-class don't get me wrong the 52x46 just wont sing you need 3100 rpm or better. Steve said that was a bout right for the combo. i like the 54 inch style and i like what tom crawford had to say in the archives low rpms . it looks like for short fields the c85 or 2180 or the corvair.c85 next time for me my dads taylorcraft had one nice engine it was a 1941 bc12d love that plane hell on your knees if you are tall that smell old airplanes are king! mac bb sport ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 07:07:56 -0700 To: krnet@mailinglists.org From: "Ross R. Youngblood" Subject: Insurance Minimum Requirements Message-ID: <3B3DDD3C.2653DD71@home.com> I've recieved feedback from my insurance agent that to get "in-motion" coverage for my KR-2, I will need 100 hours in tailwheel airplanes and 25 hours in type. I only have about 18 hours in tailwheel airplanes and perhaps 10 minutes of flight time in a KR. I was hoping for "in-motion" coverage just to begin slow speed taxi tests, and wasn't considering actually leaving the ground just yet. At the moment, I'm between vehicles that can tow my KR-trailer to the airport, but I thought I would get some advice from the KR netters out there. One thought I have is to purchase a cheap taildragger (C-140) and fly it to build tailwheel time, then sell it at 100 hours, but this doesn't get me 25 hours in type, and it will probably be much cheaper just to start taxiing around and fly uninsured initially.... -- Regards Ross ------------------------------ End of krnet Digest ***********************************
