John Bouyea KR2 - N5391M/ in rebuild KR2 - on the gear KR2S - boat stage http://www.bouyea.net john@bouyea.net I used the Q2 cooling setup from information I got from Revmaster. The = oil cooler is supplied with air from the two inlets on either side of the spinner along with the cylinders from the same source. I made and = installed the baffles designed for the Q2 also. I have never had a problem with cooling as promised by Revmaster if I used this set-up. I did make a = little deflector on the left intake that splits the flow and directs half of it down toward the oil cooler. I too had a mouth in front of the oil = cooler which I soon realized was an unnecessary drag producer and eliminated = it. I also eliminated the bulge at the bottom of the cowl for air exit and = made a couple of rails at the fuselage bottom corners with a trough in between about 1" deep for air exit. Then I reduced the inlet areas as well. I gained about 5 mph with these modifications. Good luck with your = efforts. ------=_NextPart_000_0012_01C18D1E.18299C40-- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Dec 2001 12:24:23 -0500 To: davec@favorites.com From: "Philip J. He destroyed the Q2 because he did not want to sell it. He was afraid of liability. I have the Revmaster manual that came with the engine (dtd 1981). Is that where you received your information, from a Revmaster manual ? If you get some pictures made, I'd be interested. I'm hoping I'll be installing the engine next spring. It was not included in my 1986 manual. There was no charge. It consists of some templates for the cylinder head baffles and some photos showing how the engine baffling was done. I will e-mail you the photos with some key dimensions for the inlets and outlet areas. P.S. - Don't forget to have your Bendix mag overhauled before you fly! Message-ID: Leo and/or Gail, Keep in mind that this is a 'standard' KR2, not a KR2S. I understand that the Dragonfly canopy works great.... If you have the bucks to spend on it. I already had the Rand supplied canopy and the premolded turtle deck, canopy frame and forward deck. The premolded turtle deck provides very little shoulder and/or head room especially for two people; that necessitated changing the curvature where the turtle deck ends and the canopy area starts. We decided to go with a single side opening gull-wing door for easer in/egress for our ageing bodies. We saved considerable bucks by using parts of the canopy we already had; instead of buying $$$$ a dragonfly canopy. But, we did not like the 'blunt' shape of the windshield of the standard canopy. Hence the flat wrapped Lexan windshield. We had very little problem ,actually none, with the premolded forward deck..... Hope this answers some of your questions; do not hesitate to write with more Jerry Mahurin, Lugoff, SC On Tue, 25 Dec 2001 21:57:28 -0800 "Leo & Gail Dondlinger" wrote: > Jerry, I am also at a slight loss at how to make a canopy > and sure > appreciate your website. I have a KR2 boat with pre-molds and canopy and was looking for a way to use all that stuff. Your solution is perfect. Also, for those who want the Dragonfly look on a KR-2 (not S), the KR-2 canopy is much less expensive than Dragonfly and can be used if you make your own frame or attachment fittings. It was a little tricky getting the filler neck in and properly glassed in and to figure out how to make sure that it was securely attached to the fuselage, but I never had any problem with it. I did have to take it back to the welder twice to re-weld leaking places as he had no way to test for it so I kept testing it until I was satisfied that it had no leaks. I really liked it, but I am not sure that it is any better than the glass one. I guess I will know within a year as the WannaBee has a glass tank and I am very confident that it will be a good one as Jerry was very particular about how he put it together. Daniel R.
