I first used dumbbell weights to get a range...1 1/4 pounds was too light and twice that was too much. I then went to a sporting goods store and bought a 2 pound lead fishing weight for $1.49. This I can easily file weight off of for perfect balance. I plan to (probably) just drill through it and the square tubing and bolt it on. VIDAL" Subject: RE: KR> seat belts Message-ID: This issue has been debated in length, and as usual, no consensus has been reached. Basically, the strongest design is to attach the belts to the tail, as is normal KR2 practice. Doing so, in case of crash, there is a risk of tail section separation, and that section will try to take your shoulders with. Attachment to the shelf is easier, but the shelf has to be reinforced some way. There is a document (drawing and strength calculation sheet) on Mark Langford's Website about that. I suppose it is the one you refer to. Well, I have to say the rocket scientists at my workplace have said to me that the justification calculations show a very close resemblance with cattle faeces. My opinion is: (Where is that foxhole again?) Reinforce the shelf by adding a third spar in the middle of it (glued to the shelf ply and the boat hull, like the two shelf spars), and drill holes for your belt attachment points through that spar. For a crash to break this will probably require so much energy that this could have been a tail separation case anyway! Now, let me dig my way to safety! I began sanding the taper in the tailfeather spars to match the = templates. It didn't take long before the templates were ruined because = of the sanding board rubbing against them. So, after cutting and = re-fitting new templates, I picked up some 1/4" wide steel banding = strap. This is the material used to hold large packages together and to = bind items to pallets etc. The material that I found was .020" thick, that translates in 2/3's of = 1/32" for those of us who think with rulers. Using the edge of a file, = I filed the spars down in way of the templates to match the templates, = and taped the steel in place over the length of the templates. I used a 3 1/2" wide sanding board with comfortable handles glued to it = and 40G paper stapled on. With the steel in place over the templates I = was free to sand with impunity and the spars were quickly tapered to = shape. A few things to keep in mind: 1) Use a yard stick between the templates = and on each side of the spars to mark what will be the dege of the spar = when you've finished tapering it. Use a pam plane and/or rasp to remove = the bulk of the material. 2) Hold the ends of the spars inplace as best = you can as you sand. If the outboard ends of the spars are allowed to = flex as you push with the sanding board, you'll end up with a spar that = has a hollow curve in it. 3) Don't sand straight along the length of = the spars when tapering them. The fore elevator spar for instance is = located at 20% on the inboard template, and 7 1/2% on the outboard = template. You have to keep the sanding board aligned with the same = chord percentage point on the templates as you sand the spars. 4) The = sandpaper will wear down quickly in way of the steel strapping. Keep = this in mind so you don't end up expending anymore energy than you have = to. 5) Scribble pencil lines along the spar edges so as to better = determine when the spar is completely tapered. Hope this helps somebody else out. A guy would be crazy to send out viruses deliberately. What this tells me is that Weber didn't excercise good judgement and opened an attachment that was a virus, which then automatically sent itself to everyone in his address book. Those people in his address book were probably put there automatically, because he had sent messages to them, either as individuals, or by using "reply all" along with KRnet. I finally got the attention of the guy that runs this listserver and he says he has put an end to attachments coming through KRnet. We'll see... We use it. It works pretty well most of tjhe time. No sweat on our part. But somebody, somewhere has done some work, is doing some, or will be doing some in order for it to keep going. We give it no thought unless we might have been involved in such an activity at some time or other ourselves. My point? A year ago, + or -, when the present list started it was suggested, only once I believe, that we members send the list operator a couple bucks for his expenses and pretzles. I sent $5 via PayPal becauae it seemed like a bargain. (The Newsletter had been $ 25 I think) How Many members do we have on tjhe list? How many have kicked in a buck or 2? How many should have? Again, whats my point? If we have been supporting the list fellow we could expect some service and field some complaints. If the members have been freeloadikng we "get what we pay for". If the latter is the case, perhaps some reannouncing of tjhe original arrangements and suggested contributions or some more formal plan is in order. What ever might make for a continued good net plus the members taking the responsibility plus a fair shake for the guy doing the work without the glory. I don't know beans about about it but it has to be a lot ;of work to set up and keep running smoothly and safely. Of course AOL ain't fixable. Elimanating the attachments is a good safety step. The present list provider perhaps has safety suggestions or offerings in his service.. I'm sure there are better ideas out there than stated here but first lets think about about being fair to the guy we got and if it aint broke don't fix it....maury hunter --part1_3e.1a852a7b.29bae40f_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 13:18:09 -0600 To: From: "Mark Langford" Subject: Re: KR> Our net service Message-ID: <00a301c1c79f$263a7fa0$7600a8c0@athlon600> maury hunter wrote: > If the latter is the case, perhaps some reannouncing of tjhe original > arrangements and suggested contributions or some more formal plan is in > order. Don't lose sight of the fact that the main issue at the moment is that the list was allowing viruses to be disseminated to 650 people at a time! I try to mention donations every few months.
