When I started this project I essentially had no experience. One of the first things that "hit me over the head" was this NOT hot wiring urethane which info came from Tony's books and the various supply catalogs, as well as from here. This was the impetus of my comment re anyone with any sense..... What probably would have been a better wording was: anyone that has looked into building, read virtually anything on the subject, or spent anytime here or in the archives learns about this problem with urethane soon. However, considering the down side of not mentioning it often, I should have just shut up. So for those that I offended I too offer my apologies. This week I've gotten the turbo mounted on the engine and today I modified the inter-cooler to replace the plastic end caps with Aluminum. I'm using the intercooler from a Nissan 300 ZX twin turbo, but what's good enough for an auto is not always good enough for an aircraft. It's no fun when you blow your intake system apart at 18000 feet. That's why I'm replacing the plastic with Aluminum. If I can't be cruzin' the fly-mart at Sun'N'Fun at least I feel good that I'm making progress. I've got till the end of this month to finish the turbo installation and keep on schedule and I've been stuck lately making the exhaust system come together. Yesterday I got some Cronatron 3880 welding rods and now TIG welding 304 Stainless is as easy as putting butter on your breakfast toast! I got connected with the Cronatron rep yesterday and he was a wealth of information about the problems that I've been having mastering the skill of TIG welding my exhaust. Check the Suppliers page on my web site if you need some welding supplies. Their stuff is first rate and the tech support is even better. For those of you that are master welders forgive my excitement, some of us take this building for educational purposes seriously! It's fun when you can solve a problem that you've been beading yourself up about for over a month! Anyway, I'm out of the hot section of the turbo and into the cold section. If I didn't have to pay Uncle Sam so many green stamps perhaps I could get some more KR parts! I hope the tax man is good to you all.
