Need a little info if = possible. I built my rudder/brake pedal similar to Mark Langfords and = now will install cylinders and calipers. I have Cleveland cylinders and = Cleveland calipers. Question is: What is the best line and fittlings = to use? I have fixed composite taildragger gear legs. I have the tools = to flare aluminum tubing if recomended. =20 I am also looking for a simple trim cable system - my old KR has RC = plastic cables and worked okay. I thought about using steel cable but = had a friend who had his kink and hang up. Electric trim sounds neat = but may be too heavy and complicated for a simple KR (unless you can = convince me otherwise) =20 Thanks - Hope your family anb plane are doing well. BILL=20 ------=_NextPart_000_001B_01C261BB.364BA160-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 22:36:46 -0400 To: From: Subject: Progress as of now Message-ID: <003001c261e0$e5d7f820$13851442@h1x1g0> ------=_NextPart_000_002D_01C261BF.5E4938E0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Gang - Glad to be back! Email was down for a while due to phone changes = and hoping to get DSL (didn't work out though - have to live within half = mile of station and I live in the sticks) =20 Progress - last two months have seemed like no progress - I guess = thats the way it goes. I did a few things though. Finally permanently = installed my horizontal and had installed the elevator to complete = cables and controls. As of now elevator and aileron controls and = finished. Before I do my rudder cables I am thinking through ideas of = routing them down the fuse sides. I wanted to run them through a tube = (stiffer than Nyflo) that was big enough in diameter where I could = remove them if necessary. What I want to do with the pasanger = compartment is install a semi rigid tube to the sides for the cables and = then fill in the wedges of the sides with foam and glass the entire = interior sides of fuse from the firewall to seat back with one layer of = carbon. It would be light and substantially increase strength. Sound = resonable of not? IDEAS? The one problem with the stock rudder pedal = assy that I do not like is the the fact that the cable connects onto the = tubing just by the pedal. It seems that it would be easy for it to = interfere with feet and pant legs and such. I am thinking of a way to = locate the connector closer to the fuse sides. Cable routing would be = straighter as well. IDEAS? Right now I just finished my trim tab installtion and need to route = some sort of control cable. =20 I also will need to balance my elevator before final installation. = The elevator was built with aerodynamic horns on it. It will take = almost 2lbs of shot lead to balance. Seems like a lot. Do I also need = to balance the rudder in the same way? Does not seem possible if built = per plans but I have also thought about building it with a 2.5" horn on = the top. IDEAS? I wanted to begin the turtledeack and fore deck but still do not = have a canopy to start with. I made my own templates for the firewall = and instrument panel to begin but have chosen to wait to make sure I = get it right. I dont believe minor differences in the for deck will = afect the canopy much but am waiting to see if Ed Blochers canopy works = out. =20 Soon I will begine instrument collecting. I will keep a minimum VFR = package - VDO engine gauges (inexpensive and should work well with = Corvair power) - Simple GPS (handheld with mount) a Comm and a = Transponder. I like chart flying so will keep NAV to a minimum. If = any good used stuff out there for sale let me know.=20 Tank templates are made up - I will have a removable 14 gallon = aluminum header and two 7 gallon stub wing tanks- also aluminum and = removable. =20 Well, That is my progress as of now and I hope to do much more by = winter. My goal is to have stub wings and outboard wings finished = before new year and then concentrate on engine and interior. Hope to = have rudder and tanks finished in a couple weeks. =20 Happy Building! We were too late to get the two Canadian KRs = judged for any awards this year.=20 It was a nice turnout of KRs for the weekend with one from California = one from New Mexico and the two from Canada and the usual gang from the = middle of the country present. The awards dinner was great and there were a few surprises put on by the = KR wives which was a nice touch this year. Jeanette Rand was in = attendance and a special tribute to Ken was made by Jim Faugn in the = form of a very touching song. The after dinner conversation was lively and all in attendance had a = great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Willy and his lovely wife made it over again this year from England and = as far as I know at this point may be the only KR enthusiast from over = seas. Mark Langford appeared to be busy with his digital camera, so expect = pictures as soon as he gets back home. This morning was cool and clear as everyone said their goodbye as Marty = Roberts gave a couple more rides and then KRs started on their journeys = homeward. I must be the first one home, John Roffey jeroffey@tir.com ------=_NextPart_000_0021_01C26283.71C88640-- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 22:03:54 -0400 To: "krnet" From: "ROBERT COOPER" Subject: Re: KR> Gathering Message-ID: ------=_NextPart_001_0002_01C26283.F14405C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" A few pictures are up on my web page. http://www.jackandsandycooper.com/2001gathering.html http://www.jackandsandycooper.com/2001gathering2.html Jack Cooper ------=_NextPart_001_0002_01C26283.F14405C0-- ------------------------------ End of krnet Digest ***********************************
