Message-ID: <002601c26439$a9de5930$0100a8c0@TD310> NetHeads, I've spent about 9 hours sorting, sifting, shrinking, compressing, and writing the 2002 Gathering web page. The good news is that it was almost done, and I was almost finished adding the final text underneath the pictures. The bad news is that my main PC's primary hard drive controller just took the big dump, and scrambled the Win2000 Pro operating system, to the point of nothing but blue screens on bootup. I've never had one do that while I was in the middle of editing a text file, but that's what happened. I still have two more computers in the house that work just fine, so I'm not exactly dead yet! I won't lose anything important, other than the last half hour of my editing, and three days of rebuilding the operating system so that I can get back to where I was. I keep my data on a separate drive, and the photos are still on my laptop anyway, if it gets that bad. I guess I should have expected it, since it's been over a year since this build. Right now I'm copying the corrupt C_drive to another disk on another computer so I can format it and start over. Anyway, the bottom line is that now it's going to take me another few days to get it finished up and thrown out there for your consumption, but it's coming. I took over 550 photos at the Gathering, and I've picked out the best 155 for you guys. The Gathering was a blast, as usual, but I'll bore you with the details later. In the meantime, you can see one of the air-to-air photos that I took of Jim Faughn's plane at http://www.fly-kr.com/ . In case you're interested, the price lists on those pages have been updated too, and the broken links repaired, etc... Dan, I checked you on that, and the only one I got with my plans was the firewall drawing. The rest are up to your imagination! But to answer Bill's question, I'd wait for the canopy, jig it up in place, and make all the aft and forward deck parts using the canopy as a base. It gives the weight as 30 pounds per cubic foot compared to spruce at 28. The strength in bending is listed at 11,000 psi compared to 9,400 for spruce. It also list the minimum number of annual rings per inch as 6, the same as spruce. This is really all I could find in this source. I'm sure there are more knowledgable builders on this subject and someone will give you a better answer but from this info it looks promising. All that aside, if you have some really good looking wood, consider using it. Bend a sample out of the middle to destruction for yet another check.
