"as our climate is so variable.I am = on the coast where winters are mild, but only have to go 80 miles inland = to encounter winter temperatures of -3 deg C early morning then 14 deg.C = later ,then 42 deg C shortly after midday.During a Bergwind, blowing = offshore one can get 45 deg C for a day or two in the middle of = winter.,even at the coast where it should be about 14 deg C.I concur = with your feelings about carb.heat, being essentail on aircraft. How hot = is warm and how warm is hot ?Its the old question, but the carb will soon = let one know when it wants heated/warm air. Here one can get impact = ice, fuel ice(refrigerated ice) throttle ice. For example one can get = fuel ice at +20 to +30 deg C when the relative humidity is above 50% or = so.(by fuel ice it is meant fuel evaporation causing moisture to = freeze)Even at the coast here,on descent with low power, before = landing,it is usual to apply carb heatjust in case.Small throttle = butterfly openings increase the chance of ice forming. Then on final = ,carb heat is taken off just in case a go around is required. You all = probably know all this but I feel like a dog chasing its tail trying to = answer yor questions Ron.Suffice to say I am very impressed with the Ram = Air system shown in thr Revmaster manual. Is this typical of what is = known as "Yankee Enginooity" Best Regards to All, Eric Evezard, South Africa ------=_NextPart_000_0014_01C2B013.A3F7FA00-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:44:33 -0600 To: KRnet@mailinglists.org From: "Oscar Zuniga" Subject: juggling KRs Message-ID: Dave writes- >Terry, you can only fly one KR2 at a time, or has your wife >told you that already? Be aware that there is some study to be done before placing these units. Paul Martin tried two of them on his bone-stock VW-powered KR2 before he sold it, and there are compromises in the location. If you try to place the NACA vents in the most obvious location around your knees, there is fuselage framing to avoid and the placement ends up being less than ideal as far as finding positive-pressure air there. Paul was able to get some decent effect from his, but not as satisfactory as you would think. Tony Bingelis has an excellent discussion and detail on this in one of his books; "Firewall Forward", I believe. He explains how to go about fitting the backplate and forward bulkhead, measuring for the cutouts, fitting "baffles" in the holes in the spinner behind the prop, fitting the prop to the spinner, and checking tracking of the prop and spinner. Basically you use a piece of paper or cardboard to sketch the prop's profile where the blades intersect the spinner perimeter, then you mark the spinner and cut the rough openings somewhat smaller than they will finally be. Then you fine-tune with a nibbler, files, Dremel, or whatever you have on hand to shape the openings to the prop blades. If you don't have the set of four homebuilders' books by Bingelis, give yourself a late Christmas present and get them. Guaranteed "riveting" reading! Now I have a boat and a set of spars. Took about 3 months and 75 hrs to build the spars. Got tripped up when I followed the plans to closely and had to backtrack a little to make the spars conform to the new wing dimensions. Weight of these new babies are: wing rear spar: 4 lb; aft center spar: 6 lb; wing forward spar: 9 lb; center forward spar: 18 lb. Total weight for all spars right at 50 lb. I have posted a few pictures on my website. So to date I have worked 300 hrs and have a boat and set of spars weighing a grand total of 100 lbs. HAPPY NEW YEAR and see you at Red Oak! r/Bernie Lexington Park, MD KR2S Builder http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n2w6 ------------------------------ End of krnet Digest ***********************************
