You can get to it by wading through the "new airfoil" webpage, then through the "design" page, where it's located at the bottom. If you're interested in this thing, be sure and read the design page. I just read it again and learned some things that I'd forgotten about the improvement in performance. One thing you might notice about these templates is that they show an optional "extended" wooden spar drawn out on the tip template in hidden lines, which is what one would do if he (or she, in the case of Jane) wanted to eschew the "hoaky foam spar" and use real wood all the way to the tip. Not that strength is an issue, but it sure is easier to just buy the right length spar cap material to start with and build the whole spar in one piece, rather than adding that foam spar biz on the end. That just gives people like me another place to screw it all up, again! I was kinda proud of these templates, since the drawings themselves show the exact dimentions and angles to cut everything, all on the templates themselves. No need to go digging around in two different sets of plans and drawings for all the numbers. I think the folks that bought them got their money's worth... If you don't have Acrobat of any kind, no wonder you can't download it! Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download the Acrobat READER for free. Once you've opened the airfoil template file and it's displayed, there's a little picture of a floppy at the lower left corner of the stuff up at the top of the window, which WILL allow you to save it to disk, even though half of the options under "file" are grayed out. I downloaded it both with both Acrobat 4.0 and 5.0, but I don't know about 3.0. Although those files are 300 meg each, it only takes about 3 meg to display it (on my computer, anyway), but you might just run out of RAM first if you have really old PC with very little memory in it. I don't know how little is too little, but I feel sure somebody will tell me soon enough! You could always just send the URL to that page to the print shop and tell them which one you want. Or maybe I can go into the business of selling CDs now, for $106 each... You WOULD come up with this trip idea about 5 minutes after I mumbled to myself "God, I hope nobody ever sees these flaps looking like this". I'm going to spend a week in New York sometime in the next few weeks, but I don't know when yet. Regardless, I should be home by late Friday night. So why not? Y'all want to shoot for three weeks from yesterday, Saturday, Feb 8th? Just be prepared to discover that my workmanship is not as good as the hype might indicate! I have to admit that I'm basically anti-social, avoiding crowds whenever possible (I only shop at Walmart at 5:30 in the morning). But the other night I went to an EAA meeting that was held at a restaurant, rather than the Moontown pilot's lounge. I usually don't go because it's a bunch of old guys who just TALK about building planes, but never seem to actually do anything. But this time Kim McCutcheon of the "Historical Aircraft Engine Society" was going to speak, and I didn't want to miss it. It turns out it got cancelled because there was a "possiblity" of an inch of snow on the ground, but nobody bothered to actually send out an email to that effect, so 8 of us "IFR" drivers showed up for BBQ at the Greenbriar Restaurant. I must confess that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as I always do when around airplane folks. As I get older I slowly realize that people are the only things that really matter, so I'm up for a little get-together. It's funny how you can always carry on a conversation with a total stranger when it's about building airplanes... If anybody's going to spend the night and drive home on Sunday, I could pick out a hotel that the "multitudes" (both of you) can stay at, and we could have dinner there or next door, but it's still just going to be a "Saturday only" thing. There's a map of the immediate area at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/296map.pdf . I have learned = much and still have much to learn. I enjoy helping others. I suppose = that is why I spent 35 years as a teacher. In Canada the Department of = Transport always said that this building of planes was an educational = program. Only now many years later I believe them Last night I painted the underdide of the plane. The outside temperature = was -15 C.(0 F) I had to heat with electricity instead of my normal wood = stove. The paint was a 2 component urethane. I brushed the paint on. I = had to use a carbon filter mask and nitrile gloves..There was an air to = air heat exchanger going at the time. When I finished and cleaned the = brush I took off the mask, took one breath, held it, grabbed my coat and = ran to the door. The odour was terrible and I guess very toxic too. I = have not been back since. I could not spray it because I do not have the = protective clothing and fresh air breathing system. What other painting = methods and types are available for the top side. I would paint with a = good brush rather than spray in the workshop in the winter. They make a water based polyurethane paint that can be sprayed with just a filter mask and is nonflammable so it can be used with wood heat. I painted a fiberglass cap for a pickup with this paint 10 years ago, it has been outside continuously since then and the finish still looks as good as when I painted it. I wish the rest of the truck still looked as good. The board ( which is really alum ) is hinged just behind the rear spar. The brake works like a giant mouse trap, total cost around $150. I'll take some pics in the near future once it's complete, scan them and make them available to the netters. I'm hoping drag is minimized since it is behind the bow in the fuse bottom. You can't see it from the front at all unless you lay on the floor. One other thing--------When I was at Dinwiddie for the VA flyin the editor of Sportsman Pilot Magazine did a story on 6399U, he said it would be in the Feb issue, anybody get this magazine?
