I just had this problem. Richard Shirley conducted my first test flight without any problem. Once we both were in the plane it became nearly uncontrollable. Fortunately, Richard knows his stuff. CG calc's showed 2" forward of aft limits with both of us. My recommendation is "Don't Do It!". Fly in the center of the range or forward. I am moving the engine forward 3" to accomodate two aboard with a reasonable CG. I spoke with Steve Bennett at GPASC. He said most people who have the standard 2 for any length of time usuall move the engine to bring the CG within a more acceptable range. Your results may vary. RE: The question is should I prefer to use all the length of it or to follow the plans? I am assuming a KR2, not a 2S. If you extend the tail, without making other adjustments, you will exacerbate the tendency for aft CG. You will lengthen the coupling, decrease the short coupling, but you will have to extend the engine mount, and I don't know how much that would be. I think that extending the engine, about an inch, helps on a plans built KR2. Remember, I said "I think". Our KR2 is plans built with Diehl wings. If W&B comes out not in favour of handling both of us without a CG problem, we are going to experiment with moving the weight of the engine forward. I am not looking forward to building another cowling, if we need to do that. Change 1 thing and you will have to change other things.......... N64KR Daniel R.
