I have a partially completed KR2 in my garage. You are welcome to look at it if you would like, or buy it and complete it! There is one more builder around here somewhere I think, but I have lost track of him. Maybe he will reply to you like I did. -----Original Message----- From: Dan Moser [mailto:danmoser@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 4:01 PM To: krnet@mylist.net Subject: KR> new member Hi, KR folks. I just joined this list to explore the possibility of building a KR-2S, or some variant thereof. It would help if I could visit some builders/flyers locally to see their projects first hand, and ask some questions. If you are or know of any KR-2 builders in Utah, please contact me offline at danmoser@earthlink.net Thank you !! Orma wrote:"Actually, under the plug is the closest "practical" spot on the head to take temperature measurements from". Hello Scott I just finished reading a one year section of the Archives on the CHT subject, as well as Steve B's article on probe placement. It seems to me that even if the plug is the hottest spot, that since I run 4 Cylinder CHT, that if cyl 3 is 450 and cyl 4 is 375, that cyl 3 is hotter then cyl 4. It is obvious that cyl 4 is up front and should be cooler then cylinder 3. Cylinder 2 has the lowest temp and it is up front also. Cylinder 2 is lower then cylinder 4. The question is, If the difference is due to cylinder position, is it ok that cylinder 3 can reach 550 at WOT and lead the other cylinders by as much as 100 degrees. Tomorrow I will reinstall the 4 temp probes under the cylinder head stud bolts, run the engine and see what kind of temps I get. Does anyone think that my moving the probes that I will get more uniform temps? I'm an A&P student in south Texas and got the flying itch bad! :) I saw a KR on barnstormers.com a while back and fell in love. It is such a beautiful plane! I've been enjoying looking at all your websites and work progress. And I still can't believe the whole Corvair engine thing! How crazy! Anyway, it's all really interesting. I aspire to build a KR1 after I finish school in a year or so. I have a couple of questions for you that I haven't been able to find so far. 1. How many hours does it take on average to build one of these babies? 2. How well do they last over time? 3. How much money do you invest in all the parts and materials it takes on average? 4. Don't suppose there are any of you around south Texas?? Thanks guys! Hope you all have fun at "the gathering." :) Cheers, Matt Lansford ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 05:36:57 +0200 From: "Stephen Jacobs" Subject: RE: KR> foam and radial engines To: "'rparker'" , "'KRnet'" Message-ID: <000801c496e7$704db890$3064a8c0@home> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" it was completed in 1985 with pink foam and is still flying today +++++++++++++++++ Thank you Rich - this is what I hoped to hear. Good and well to say it works Ok in the workshop (before it is flown), but here we have one that is still OK after nearly 20 years in the air. Thanks Ron Eason - very valuable info about uncured urethane foam - would never have crossed my mind, but could trash an airplane before it gets out the shop. I know how easy this can happen - I saw something similar when I used fresh synthetic leather on the glare shield of my PA32 - gasses released when it heated up badly effected the windshield (plexiglass). Fortunately I was installing new windows anyway. You fibbed big guy - you said you cracked the one ton grin, yet in a recent post you talk of ninety something hours. I'll just have to open another bottle when you actually get there !!! What is the best way to attach the baffling to the motor, screws, bolts, silicone...????? Baffeling to baffeling will be attached with rivets, but attaching it to the motor is the issue. Any photos will be helpful also.
