I have access to a surplus canopy from a locally produced aircraft, and it measures 15 1/2 inches from the bottom to the top when sitting flat on a table, and 43 inches wide (which will fit my widened KR2S) sitting flat. What do most canopies measure ?? namely the dragonfly canopy!! Thanks Gavin Australia --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Within the last six months there is wealth of information contained therein concerning the rotary. Weight, horsepower, reduction, reliability, etc. is well covered in the archives. After reading up on the discussions, ask away. Once again, please do not take this a "check the archives first" statement, it is just there is so much information contained in the archives. It's been dead for at least a week, and I don't see any evidence that it'll come back either. It's not all that great for searching anyway, (see the real KRnet search engine at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp for any searches you'd like to conduct), and the advertising was barely bearable anyway. The list has it's own built-in archive at http://mylist.net/private/krnet/ , but you need to know your KRnet password to get there. I suspect that about 1% of you know your passwords, so rather than pester me for it (which I can't help you with anyway), you can got to http://mylist.net/options/krnet , fill in the yellow blank with your email address, leave the password blank BLANK (since presumably you don't know it anyway) and down near the bottom hit the "REMIND" button. Your password will be emailed to you about 10 seconds later, and now you'll know it! Then go to http://mylist.net/private/krnet/ , choose "view by date" for 2004, and scroll to the bottom for the latest KRnet postings. If you don't like your password, go to http://mylist.net/listinfo/krnet , enter your email address in the yellow box at the very bottom (unsubscribe or edit settings), sign on to your settings page, and change it to something you can remember easier. You'll also discover that you can do things like change to the digest version, put a "hold" on your mail while you're on vacation (although I think I'd just switch to the digest so you don't miss anything), or unsubscribe altogether. And don't forget you can always download the digests from http://www.bouyea.net/ also (going all the way back to day one of KRnet). This is purely a matter of self preservation, as I feel most of you can handle this, if you'd just give it a try... To: Message-ID: <40E2FABD.000059.02628@motherfucker> Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Vne is essentially the speed at which the aircraft becomes uncontrollable, either through control surface flutter or exceeding the velocity at which the surface has authority (where the surface remains stable but can no longer deflect sufficient air to effect movement) or the velocity where sufficient force cannot be applied to effect control surface movement. The big thing here is that Vne for a plans built experimental aircraft will vary from plane to plane, and so each must be assessed on an individual basis. Vne can be increased by the simple action of balancing of the control surfaces. Other things that can (not necessarily will) increase the Vne, alteration of: the wetted area of the control surface (making them bigger), the configuration of the control surface (e.g. Mark L's friese ailerons), increase the amount of force directed to the control surfaces. Most of the rotary guys are getting about 13 gallons an hour at full cruise power with levels as low as 7-8 at economy cruise. They are very, very comparable with a 360, so close the difference is not appreciable. As for cooling, that is totally up the the builder and his install. Numerous studies have been done on thick rads/thin tall rads so the info is out there to make a decision on one's individual install. As for the KR, by the time you add the reduction drive onto the front of a 13B it is going to quite heavy for a KR plus you are going to be pulling right at 200HP. The torque generated with the drives is probably going to be an issue with the short coupled KR. My my install it is the right choice but the KR may be an animal of a different color.
