I called up Azusa Industries out in Los Angles, CA. and they told me that if I went with that particular set then it wouldnt work cause the tires wouldn't be able to handle the wieght..... however I could still use the set IF I was to go from a 4-ply to like a 6 or an 8 ply tire then that would work for my aircraft. Just wanted to put that in the arcieves for people who are looking at that set. 5" wheel and brake set part#06-03100 $161.20 >From the research I have done 4-ply tires have a max. load rate of 800-1350lbs. An 6-ply max. load rate is 1285-3250lbs. An 8-ply max.load rate is 2350-4400lbs. These are figures from Aircraft Spruce Catalog McCreary tires tire sizes ranging from 5.00-5 to 8.5-10. Thanks to the generous donations and good attendance at the banquet, the finances are in great shape. The Gathering funds balance will have grown from $1864 going into this years Gathering to right at $2900 for next year. Awesome !!! I think we may have reached the point that we can consider eliminating the "begging for funds" at the banquet. Most people attending the Gathering assumed I live locally. The fact is I live about 50 miles south of Mt.Vernon. That made it rather expensive for me personally to host the Gathering. Eight to ten trips to airport board meetings, EAA chapter meetings, meeting with hotel people, caterer, airport manager, etc. were 100 mile round trips each. Throw in the motel bill, an ink cartridge and phone calls and you can see where this is headed. I'm satisfied and I hope everyone is comfortable with me reimbursing myself $100 for expenses ( primarily the mileage, ink cartridge, and phone calls). I'll cover my own motel bill as everyone else did. We didn't set a date for next years Gathering. Most people assumed it will be the same time of year but we also have those that want an earlier date. How do we resolve the issue? Take a vote on the Gathering web page? I don't want 20 e-mails a day on the net saying I want this date or I want that date. I'll work something out with Bob Lee, the web page creator, and let everyone know. Thanks again to everyone that helped make the Gathering a huge success. It certainly isn't a one man show. My assumption was that if the fuel pump stopped it would shut the engine right now. I was very surprised when he told me that you could still run the engine up to about 75% power without the fuel pump before you noticed any problem. I hope Ray doesn't mind me posting my reply to the net so that others may benifit from my mistake also. Larry Flesner +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Larry, Dan Heath suggested that I call you about my aileron problem. I am working on my first one. After completing the first on, I put it on the wing, and with the inboard edge lined up with the wing, the outboard was 1/2" low. I think this was because I did not have the spar perfectly flat. I have finished removing the old spar and am shaping the new spar. I understand the spar should be flat and straight. Right now , one end of the spar is approx. 3/16" low. I am thinking of building that up to make the surface flat all the way. Another option would be to epoxy the parts together, let them cure until real "tacky",then place it on the wing, clamp both ends in place, and let it finish curing. I will be checking the aileron on the wing this afternoon. The last time I did this, it "lined"up. Thanks, Larry +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ray, I think Dan sent you to the right place. Sounds like you made the same mistake I did. After cutting out the aileron I installed the aileron spar on the work table. I forgot about the 3 degree washout of the wing (twist) so my tips did not line up at the inboard and outboard end. My fix was to install the aileron and clamp the inboard end to the wing trail edge. I then cut the aileron skin just behind the aileron spar on the top side with a dremel tool from the outboard end and approx 2/3rds the length of the aileron. I then clamped the trail edge of the aileron at the outboard end to the wing trail edge. This will leave a bit of a gap at the cut line. Fill with a small amount of flox/epoxy mix to hold the proper twist in the aileron and remove the aileron from the wing and probably the hinge from the aileron. I used "deck cloth", the light weight glass as it conforms to the edge much better, to repair the cut. I used four or five layers and staggered the edges a bit. After finishing you won't be able to see the repair. Make sure the hinge is attached and holding the aileron in position when you do the cut, realignment, and flox patch. This should have your tips perfectly aligned when finished. Good luck. Many government agencies and businesses run their fiscal years to end Sept. 30. Mine (Southwest Research Institute) is one such company. What this means is that the last few weeks of September some folks get very, very busy with year-end business, employee performance reviews, budgets, project closeouts, all of that. Sort of like Dana with April 15th and tax deadline business. Just one small thing to consider when setting up the dates. In my case, the end of September is always going to be tough. After contacting their E-mail, a reply came that points the finger back at me. They essentially stated that I could not detect the blade movement in a timely manner because I used the wrong size and material detection tape. I have placed a few notes on my web page http://kr-2.aviation-mechanics.com/AlertIVOProp.htm and posted pictures of the prop. I have removed IVO from the links on my page and no longer feel that they can be used safely by anyone. A requirement to check the blade for movement prior to each flight is just too much. As for the KR, Tweety is back flying with the old Sturba, and I am trying to get used to the differences. As stated before, it is a lot smoother and makes a lot less noise. I have listened to my engine with a stethoscope and could only detect the chatter of two noisy intake valves which need to be re-set to a smaller tappet clearance. I have not tried to find out what full speed is. I have been using boost on takeoff and feel the engine is running well. When you reach the point where things are not going well, quite for a few days. When you finish one part and you are not satisified with the end result, do it over. A KR-2 or 2S built right is one of the strongest aircraft ever designed so you do not need a balistic parachute, all you need to concern yourself with is proper construction using the best materiels you can get your hands on. Pretty sobering thing to watch. Pretty sobering to compare his beautiful plane with my boat with its mistakes and some not perfect woodwork. Will still continue the KRbut I am going to buy the best airplane engine I can get install a ballistic chute and get rid of every piece of excess weight that can. It is pretty sobering to watch one go in right in front of you. _______________________________________ to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to KRnet-leave@mylist.net please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html . ------------------------------ Message: 24 Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2004 10:12:28 +1000 From: "Phillip Matheson" Subject: Re: KR> Santa Fe Air Show To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <007401c4a8dd$ab75f650$82b1dccb@StationW2k04> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Babywolf. wrote Went to the Santa Fe air show to get motivation for my KR2S Project. The lesson to learn here has to do with the dangers of flying low level aerobatics rather than construction of your aircraft. Whatever your choice of engine, make darned sure it's rock solid reliable before it flies. The high altitude mountainous terrain around Santa Fe is no place to test an engine. As for the BRS, that's a personal choice. I consider it excess weight, but others do not and I respect that decision to give oneself one last chance when everything else goes wrong.
