I'm sure it was an oversight. Here's what Wick catalog says for the bolts in question: AN3 is 3/16, AN4 is 1/4, AN5 is 5/16, AN6 is 3/8, AN7 is 7/16, and AN8 is 1/2. That's out of the catalog. Matt asked: "Is there any such thing as Metric sized AN hardware? Or would you just get high grade bolts in metric sizes if you need them... Just wondering..." Well, it is a question that I asked my French fellow builders this week-end. Their answer is: Yes, there is plenty of Metric aircraft grade hardware; it is widely used in many European aircraft designs, including, of course, Airbus airliners. But since AN stands for (US) Army-Navy, and these services seem to have no intention to shift to International Standard (Metric), it seems highly unlikely that there is such thing as "Metric AN". Unless, maybe, the US Navy encountered some Metric bolts on their French Dolphin helicopters? Also, to my knowledge, the only aircraft manufacturers that fully apply the metric system to their aircraft, from A to Z, and instrumentation included, are the Russians. I'd be shocked, amazed, and confused if a Revmaster cowling intended for a KR2 would fit a KR1 without a major rework job. I guess they have to come from somewhere though, so do any KR1 builders remember buying a KR1 cowling, or were they all home made? I have a 1972 copy of the KR1 manual, and the cowling is not one of the things they were selling at that early date. The nosebowl part of the Revmaster cowling would certainly be a good headstart on cowling building effort though... I just finished my rough HS and Elevator. I need to add the lead to the aerodynamic balances, glass the gap seal areas, and add the 20 lbs of filler :-) It weighed in at 11.0 pounds. I used Fiberglass on the HS and Carbon on the Elevator. Pictures to come... If anyone has the weight data, I would appreciate it.
