Have you tried a little WD-40? I have never had to use it on Plexi, but it works great for removing adhesive from plastic. But I just checked mine out and it still seems to be flexible and easy to peel. The big difference being that I have no primer on the canopy yet. It has been sitting masked and ready for over 2 years. The masking tape seems to peel easy also. Guess I better get done- back to work. Mine is at least 4 years old too. > > I've spent 4 or 5 hours so far, and expect to spend many more, > peeling the > Spraylat off my canopy. > Joe Horton joe.kr2s.builder@juno.com ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 03:56:30 -0700 (PDT) From: F Ross Subject: Re: KR> the heartbreak of Spraylat To: KRnet Message-ID: <20041030105630.12976.qmail@web40908.mail.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Goop, the white creamy stuff (DO NOT USE the kind with ABRASIVE in it!) available at automotive parts stores for cleaning your hands. Will not harm most surfaces, better than WD-40 for removing adhesives of most types and is water-soluble. Have used it to take black grease off carpets (don't ask) and gum out of Grandkids hair, bumper-stickers off Ethan Allen headboards. Great stuff. Also not bad for getting the grease off your hands... Don't know if it'll work for this, but well worth a try. This morning I tried several suggestions, including Goop and Purple Power, but they didn't help much. I'd already tried WD-40 yesterday, and it helped as a lubricant, but I didn't see much improvement. But today I decided to try Don Reid's solution and use it as a solvent. It didn't exactly fall off, but it definitely helped dissolve the connection between plexiglas and Spray Lat, especially when allowed to soak in for a few minutes. There are some details at the bottom of my canopy page (linked from project update). Once the canopy was clean enough to see where I was going (what a difference), I couldn't resist taxiing up and down the street a few times (yes, I'm only a couple of years behind Mark Jones in that regard). There are a few photos (and a movie) of that spectacle, as well as a link to the updated canopy page, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/index.html#update . Tomorrow I'll attempt to align the wheels with shims. You know I'm getting close when I start thinking about making a trailer hitch to hold the tailwheel so I can tow it to the airport (without a trailer)...
