I wanted to use a set of 2.5 litter engines from Subaru and a gear reduction so they would run at higher rpm's. I've heard that Subaru's with gear reductions are like running a turbo props because they run so smoothly. Also one gear reduction would spin counter clockwise to eliminate the having a critical engine making it safer. I wanted to increase the cruse speed to about 250 but I do not have the aerodynamic and engineering back ground to do so. I wouldn't be able to build the reduction dive to run backwards either not to mention the fact that I cant even finish the Kr that I have now much less design and build something almost from scratch. It was a long building process but worth every minute. Just a short funny here: Yesterday, I e-mailed my wife at work and simply told her the three words women love to hear. She responded with an e-mail that had the same three words in it. I replied back to her stating that I sure was glad she loved me because then she would not be so mad when the 18 wheeler pulled up in the drive and unloaded the new airplane kit I had bought. I thought this would be an easy way of telling her. She replied, "If it does, you will picking staples out of your nuts for a year." I cancelled the order. Some women just don't get it. Oh well, I have a KR I need to fly anyway. here is a little something for you all: http://www.avweb.com/news/skywrite/188792-1.html Mark Jones (N886MJ) Wales, WI USA E-mail me at flykr2s@wi.rr.com Visit my KR-2S CorvAIRCRAFT web site at http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n886mj/homepage.html ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 08:37:45 -0600 From: larry flesner Subject: Re: KR> KR-3 twin To: KRnet Message-ID: <3.0.6.32.20041223083745.007e6560@pop.midwest.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" >KRnetHeads, >It's kinda quiet tonight, so I'll throw this bone out there. Mark Langford, +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The most interesting part of the spec's is to study them closely and then try to determine who was smoking what. 500 pounds empty weight for a twin?! Even Ken's "ultra-light" KR2 came in at 480 pounds.! Also interesting, same stall and cruise as the KR2. My Walter Mitty dream is a scale Cessna 310 (early style) with twin Corvairs. A spacious 2 place, side by side, with gullwing entry, retracts, etc.. Engine mounts across the spars with main gear attach as a single unit. But hey, what am I thinking? I won't even stop fly the KR2 long enough to finish it!!!! Have a Merry Christmas everyone or a happy holiday for whatever you are celebrating. They were working on the KR-3 which was a single engine amphibian, the first completed one was almost destroyed in the first test flight and the plan was tore-build/ perfect it and get plans and kits on the market. After that they were planning to proceed with the KR-4 twin. It was going to be a four place and the engines that Ken planned to recommend were two Revmaster 2100's. After his death the plans for both the amphibian and the twin were just forgoten about. Pre-moulded parts for the KR-2 and the development of the KR-2S with premoulded parts and a choice of landing gear configurations came after his widow took over the business. A very merry christmas and happy new year to all builders, and flyers on the KRNet Bob Stone, Harker Heights. It was called the KR-2T "Tango", as in "it takes two to Tango". A schematic is shown at http://www.flysquirrel.net/KR/Tango01.JPG . Driver got out before crossing the scale and beat on the side of the trailer then pulled over the plate. The scale master was curious so he called the driver in and asked what he was doing. Driver replied he had a load of parakeets and he beat of the trailer to get them flying so he wouldn't be over weight. She pushed me to pick up a partially finished KR2. When it started taking too long to finish, she said get that Q2 that is ready to fly. So, now I have 2 planes(?). The KR needs lots of work. The Q2, I managed to break on first flight, but it is now 2 work weeks from flying. Rather than complaining, she says "don't forget my Honey Do list while you play." The answer is GET the RIGHT wife! I bought a gun about a year ago, but I returned it after I read the directions and learned that I could not cure the parts in my home oven because it apparently makes toxic gas. The gas is also explosive so I could not use my gas oven anyway even if it was outside. If you have an electric oven in your backyard you can use it. They do sell a small powder coat oven also, but it costs a lot more than I wanted to spend since I can send parts out from work to a professional powder coater cheap.
