Ron Freiberger mailto: rfreiberger@swfla.rr.com -----Original Message----- From: krnet-bounces@mylist.net [mailto:krnet-bounces@mylist.net]On Behalf Of Harold Woods Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 5:13 PM To: krnet@mylist.net Subject: KR> pitit location. Hi Netters. It was my impression that the static port location should be at the widest part of the fuselage. The must be one on each side and they are interconnected. This is done because if yopu apply a bit of rudder and yaw the plane , the port on one side moves into the slipstream and raises the pressure while the port on the other side of the fuselage moves back out of the slipstream thus reducing the pressure. By interconnecting these two an average pressure is maintained. If you use only inside cabin pressure the difference between inside and outside can be variable because if you open a hot or cold air vent you change the pressure. An increase in speed may change the interior pressure of the cabin. These changes will make the differential pressure between the ram air and the average pressures inaccurate and variable. Any suggestions? After landing the engine started and seemed to run fine when I disassembled the turbo I found a lot of coke on the turbine wheel which I believe may have been the cause of the engine sdtoppage. How does one get rid of the carbon build-up so the turbine will spin free again? It will be right by the end of the row that has all the Cessna 170s and the row that has the Piper Cubs. You can also get there by follwoing the trail that is to the left of the EAA publications area. You go past a guard shack and over a walking bridge to a short trail through the woods to the antique area. If you are lost call me cell at 904-536-1780 or just yell KR Barbeque in the area and I will find you. The particular engine had been sitting for 6 years and to strip down and check it over would be about 3000 and if anything else was wrong more the engine ended up having 2 cracked cyclinders and was not as the log book appeared a cyclinder is about 1500 to buy! if the engine is certified a 100 hourly will cost about 1000 dollars and it will use about 26 litres an hour! I straight away made my mind up of the risk that the engine could be a dud! and end up costing me a fortune! I think it was caused by not having a scavenger oil pump [it was gravity drained]. Anyway, I had it overhauled and they told me the seal plate was on backwards. Apparently the previous owner tied to inspect it and reassembled it wrong. That may have had something to do with the coke buildup also. I had a diesel mechanic overhaul the turbo they do that kind of work routinely.
