He was less than complimentary about their undercarriage, and implied that I could do better. When I asked him what he suggested, he mentioned both the Minicab and the Cavalier. (It just turns out that he has an almost completed Minicab which is looking for a good home...). So off I went to the Web looking for info on the Minicab and/or Cavalier. Quite pretty planes, I have to admit. But they specify large (ie 135hp Lycoming) engines as standard. Makes me think that the inherent drag in the design is relatively high for such a powerful engine to only produce a cruise of 130mph. I didn't ask him how much his Minicab was going for, since I really am not that interested. I (perhaps foolishly) actually want to build my own plane. I might regret this, of course, but that's how I feel at the moment. If all you guys can successfully build really great planes, then so can I. Any thoughts on the Minicab/Cavalier as opposed to the KR2-S? My comm antenna is built into the vertical stabilizer (see http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/antennas.html ), and my ELT antenna is 6 feet further forward two bays behind the aft spar. Does that qualify? The transponder antenna is 18" aft of the ELT antenna, but that's supposed to be plenty for the high frequency it operates at. Mark Langford, Huntsville, Alabama +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The "wildlife" WAS mostly on the other side of town at the truckstop. I would hear the hookers ("lot lizards" in trucker lingo) on the C.B radio working the lot when I drove a semi part time. That was more than a year and a half back so the only wildlife now may be the coyotes at the airport. My ELT antenna is located about 2 feet from my com antenna. I've not had any problems but then I've not needed my ELT yet either. Are they suggesting you might get power from one antenna feeding to the other and setting off the ELT or what? Fortunately my rudder cables miss it by at least a half inch, so I should be safe there! Maybe that's where the squealing in my headset is coming from every time I key the mic! More on that as I figure it out, but suffice it to say I'm breadboarding my radio away from the plane in an effort to figure out what the deal is. Grounds are all OK, but I didn't notice from the schematic that the mic and headphone lines were supposed to be shielded, so a rewire may be in my future, or at least adding a shield to those lines. My deadline is gradually slipping away... Mark >Langford, Huntsville, Alabama ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Very good list......... If you can meet the requirements on that list you won't have any problem on the inspection. You will want to be hard on youself as the inspector will likely not check/see everything on the list and if the inspector doesn't catch it and it's wrong it's your a$% in the seat when it starts to fly. I'd suggest you get several other builders that know what they're looking at to check it out several times before the inspector shows up. It's amazing what you can miss on your own project after you have been looking at it for years. I totally overlooked putting safety wire on the crossover cable turnbuckle. The inspector let me safety it while he looked at another aircraft so he didn't have to write it up.
