I am a new member of the KR.Net and have enjoyed reading all of the information and remarks. As I have stated before, I am probably 99% completed with my KR2. All I need is paint to am ready for flight. (After inspection naturally). I also own a Acro Sport 2 biplane. Beautiful aircraft. A friend of mine was on his deathbead and wanted me to have it. Cost me $15,000. The engine is a Lycoming 0-320 with inverted oil, fuel, and fuel injection. Total time on the engine since factory new (never rebuilt) was 160 hours. The Acro Sport had only 24 hours on it. The Acro Sport is fun to fly if you are not needing to go very far cross-country. However, in the late evenings when the air is cool, I love to just fly and feel the wind over the top of my head, watch the earth roll as I do aileron rolls, barrel rolls and loops. It is a completely different experience. The Acro Sport is easier to fly than a Cessna 150 except when landing. This is when you have to be in complete and constance control. Approach is 90 mph, over the fence at 80, and then total concentration as you look to the left-front for references. You have to look left front as you can't see a blame thing in front of you. Hope that I didn't bore you. I will be at the Gathering come September. Can you give me a site that I can post a picture of my KR so you guys won't think I am lying. Go to : www.krgathering.org for all the Gathering info. Also at that site is a printable flyer that I'm asking everyone to print several copies and distribute at their local airports. I've spent probably 10 or 12 hours over the course of the last week creating all the forms, banquet tickets, registration forms, etc., so things are coming together. I also got in the mail today 18 packets with all the forms and instructions from the local FSDO office for registering your KR. These will be available at the Gathering for those getting within six months or so of completion. The Gathering is the "Woodstock" of the KR world. BE THERE !!!!!! Last night I tweaked the flexplate until it was tracking true. I just did anther test run and the flexplate barely grazed the starter teeth at 2500 rpm. As soon as I passed through 2550 rpm there was no more grazing the starter teeth. Nor did it do so up to max static rpm of 2750 rpm. I then slowly reduced rpm and again at 2550 down to 2500 rpm the flexplate grazed the starter teeth. As soon as I passed below 2500 rpm, it was fine again. I have determined that there is some minute induced oscillation at 2500 to 2550 rpm. I am convinced the flexplate is ok and that I have my starter mounted too close to the flexplate. Not enough clearance between the ring gear teeth and the starter teeth. I don't remember what and where, but I have flown an airplane that was placarded against operation in a given rpm range - I presume it was for a similar reason. I believe that it was a bit of good fortune that you had the starter flex-plate acting as a tell-tale, would you have otherwise known? I tend to think that the propeller is a part of whatever conditions are setting up this harmonic resonance - it may move to a different rpm range (or go away) if you changed props. Maybe that is a test you should consider before you "fix" the problem. Even a borrowed prop that is not really suitable for the KR would provide some info. It may be worth the trouble to move the existing prop relative to the hub - maybe 90 degrees (or closest). Another test worth considering - some form of temporary brace (reinforcing) on the flexplate. Maybe this oscillation is restricted to The Vair flexplate (it always looked a bit gangly for its size), but maybe one should assume that this is acting on more than just the flexplate. Even if you cure the symptom by spacing the starter - the resonance will still be present with that engine /prop /spinner combo (in the flexplate at least). Oscillation is high speed flexing - is this introducing fatigue? Consider marking it on your ASI and avoiding that range. (Do not rely on memory). +++++++++++++ Last night I tweaked the flexplate until it was tracking true ++++++++++++++++ How? Regards Steve J Ok - 49 days - enough already. ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ See KRnet list details at http://www.krnet.org/instructions.html End of KRnet Digest, Vol 346, Issue 59 ************************************** ================================== ABC Amber Outlook Converter v4.20 Trial version ==================================
