I will be looking at those plans real soon to double check. I have the 1992 S plans. Off the topic but....... are there any tricks to the boat with the plywood already installed to releive tension? I put it in the jig then wet it with water. The next day I started to bring in the sides to the dementions, it;s been sitting that way for 3 days, with me giving it water. Would this be proper or is there better ways of doing this? People keep saying the 2S is wider, and I keep thinking it's not, so I always go back and lay the plans out on the floor and compare them directly. That's what I did again last night, and they're STILL the same width! The S has two more inches of leg room, and a little more head room (which is also variable with the seat height anyway), but the WIDTH is the same. This is probably so the RR pre-molds (except for aft deck) would fit both the KR2 and the KR2S. > Off the topic but....... are there any tricks to the boat with the > plywood already installed to releive tension? I think the water method is probably is good as any. Steam would be even better (as Dr. Dean proved), but the logitics of that method are prohibitive. And doing it slowly helps too. Bending a little more each day over the period of a week is probably good enough. How do I know that three days isn't enough? I cracked one of my longerons while bending mine. Just make sure everything is dry before you actually glue anything. And while you're making your "boat", glue in a temporary cross member or two across the upper longerons in the seating area to make sure that the cockpit doesn't "close up" while you're not looking. Don't ask me how I know this will happen... It seems sometimes we all get so wound up in building we forget what it is like to actually fly and experience what is important in aviation. Like Scott, my father, and great friend, passed away April 12th. The loss created a void which will never be filled. With that said, there is a total lack of void brought about by an aviation experience of which I had nothing to do with. My plan, prior to my father's passing, was to leave the office on April 15th. and drive to Huntsville. There Mark and I would meet Doug Steen from TX who would fly his Bonanza from TX to pick us up. My father's funeral was on April 15th so attending Sun & Fun was not even considered. While on my way to Dad's military funeral (Pacific theater vet), I received a phone call from Doug. He relayed his intent to fly from TX to KY that evening to pick me up. His thought was I need the distraction and would use his airplane as a means to help achieve this desire. I talked with my mother who was all for this plan. After the funeral I drove the 2+ hours back home only to find Doug already in KY. I already had my camping stuff packed for Sun & Fun from prior planning so cloths were thrown in a bag and off the airport. Doug let me sit left seat for the flight from KY to Huntville. 1.75 hours of night/complex and a free choice of conversation was a great distraction. Dad would have approved. Got a nicely graded landing in Huntsville by Mark:-) One night spent in Huntsville and off to Sun & Fun. Mark graciously hopped in the back seat and allowed me to sit right seat. Had a great time at Sun & Fun seeing old friends and camping with two great aviation friends. Upon leaving on Sunday, Mark once again hopped in the back. Folks, Doug flew from TX to pick me up, think about it. I have, and will cherish the friendship. While I will never "get over" my father's passing the above is posted to illustrate a very important aspect often overlooked: It is not the airplane, it is not the flight, it is not the engine......................it is the people we meet through this wonderful lifestyle that make it so wonderful. Remember, it's the people. I have sat here remembering all the wonderful experiences I had with my father. Naturally, this extended to the current days. I'm not leaving anyone out but the perfect KR evening would be at Sun & Fun, or some out of the way grass field with Mark, Larry, Mike, Steve, Dean, Doug, Ross, Jeff, Adrean, Tom, Troy, Mark, Steve, Linda, Jim along with a load of lager:-) Anyone I left out, if you share the same passion pull up a seat. My KR2 modified is basiclly a KR 2 , plans built, with a 24" stretch. I did modify it considerably from the top longerons up for more head room, the fuel system is non-standard, and lots of little things that have nothing to do with your question. Going 238 mph average top speed at 845 pounds is encouraging with the 0-200 hopped up. I was wondering what a 190 CI corvair would be able to do in the kr2s at just under 700 pounds. I know there are a lot of variables though. I just wasn't looking for a 150 mph airplane with this dream and a lot of the volk engine guys seem to be getting that. I wanted a plane that when I wanted to go somewhere I would be doing it faster than a biplane with a 150 horses at 13 gal per hour if you know what I mean. I guess I really need to spend that $1500 for the extra 20 horses. Any way the project is started so I am determined to see it out and get the hours on the plane. Then if finances prove to be there to move on we will see what happens. Thanks all for the response on the web page question. I have changed the background to a more practical and appropriate for the project design. Make sure you give all your "Mothers" the day they deserve. Peace to all on this stormy Wisconsin friday.
