I am just about ready to start drilling up the spars for my WAF'S. The plans do not really give you an exact location of where they should fall in the upper and lower caps other than how far outbd the bolt hole should be. I know I am going to have to drill close to the inside edge of the caps because of the wing curvature. But how close should I put them to the inside edge to ensure I will not sand into them when curving the wing? Should I curve the spars to the wing shape first and the drill them up? Any one with a good Idea let me know and I would like to see pics if available. Once the fiberglass frame is fabricated / Bonded onto the canopy, according to Todd Silver (Todd's Canopy's) the canopy is supposed to get "surprisingly rigid". This thing is like a wet noodle. I've constructed the outer frame consisting of 7 plys of 2 inch tape, an aft hoop, canopy sills out of 1/4 x 3" spruce, with a 5/8 spruce cap bonded together. With everything clamped up, the canopy is anything but rigid, and concerns me about retaining it's shape during flight. I still have to flox the inner frame hoop, canopy sills, and forward hoop into the inside of the canopy and everything together, but I'm still very, very concerned about the lack of torsional rigidity of this whole structure. Cut one corner off of the bottom edge that you want for a fillet size. Then roll the open end towards the cut forming a cuff. Sort-of like how you would roll your shirt sleeves into a cuff. Spoon in the flox into the "cuff", then un-roll the bag and seal it back up. You then can sqeeze the exact amount into the corner you want to fillet with the flox. Then use either a Tongue Depressor, or a gloved finger to spread and even out the flox into the corrner. I can tell you with first hand experience that this works wonderfully. Michelle also says you could go to Michael's and get one of those plastic cake decorating bags used to make cake decorations. Use a plastic one NOT a cloth cake decorating bag. I think however, that would be a little expensive, as it would be a one time use only. However the Ziplok bag trick is both cheap, easy and gives professional results with a minimum mess. OK, I'll get back to work on my inner canopy frame..... Dan Heath wrote: Scott, It will be OK, once the edges cannot move, it will be OK. Thanks OZ. I don't really mind the little costs here and there, but one thing I'd really like to do is send Rick Maddy a big check for running our KRnet archive for us. Rick doesn't know jack about us, but created the KRnet archive site (at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp ) at the request of Larry Capps anyway. Its a fantastic resource of KR information, dating back to the earliest days of KRnet. He's had it up and running for a year or so, and has never said a word about compensation. I'd like to send him something to encourage him to keep up the good work. His web site is at http://www.maddyhome.com/cozy/index.jsp . By the way, it's hard for me to understand why there have only been 5000 searches, when there's so much valuable information sitting there waiting to be discovered... I also have an VW engine pump and electric boost. It appears that each of these pumps will allow fuel to flow through them in the case of failure. I am wondering why I can't eliminate the vent from the header tank and rely on the vents in the wing tanks to vent the system. ( I will have a removable fore deck for access/modification of the header tank. I have had no problem receiving, so I hope that I am not one of those on the RR problem sites.
