It is on 75.27%. Using compufoil I placed the rear spar at this location and set it to distended depth. I then worked out that the tallest part of the spar would be at 74.088% chord. This also happens to be the leading edge of the spar.At this location the spar is 4.409" tall or 111.98 (112mm). Is this all correct? I have gone over this three times now and something tells me I am missing something. I suppose I should mention that this is for the stub wings using the AS 5048 airfoil. Sometime in the past I worked out something in the region of 117mm if my memory serves me correctly. I think it's the most accurate spot for a reference as it will put all flying surfaces plus the engine in proper alignment. It worked for me. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ >One more question if I may: I can't make up my mind whether to install >the spars in the fuz first and then rig the outer spars to them >(install w.a.f"s)or rigging the outers first before installing the >centre spars in the fuz. Pro's and con"s of each?? Dene Collett ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I installed all my forward spar fittings before installing center spar in fuselage. I did this with only an eight foot table. I supported the outer spars with separate stands. This allows you to stretch a line from tip to tip to keep the spar straight and the line will also give you the dihederal (5 inch rise at the tip) or whatever the plans call for. It's been a while since I did that. You then remove the fittings from one end of the center spar to insert into the fuselage. The rear outer spars can only be aligned after the center spars are bonded to the fuselage. Get the front center spar aligned and bonded and then use the 48 inch ribs to locate the rear center spar for bonding. I used two bubble levels to set mine up and when I later checked it with a digital level I found it to be off only 1/10th of one degree and the KR flies well. I not so sure I even have the ever so slight heavy right wing I mentioned in my first fligh post. To many variables to check out yet and it's so minor as not to be a problem. I'm not even planning to install any tabs yet on any of my control surfaces. It flies that well. It has to be mounted inside the wing shape and the ribs will tell you where that is. Using Mark Langford's ribs with the humps should make it a "no brainer". That is provided you have the ribs sized and marked correctly. Make sure all four 48" ribs are bolted together when shaping and finished so they are all the same. Take it one step at a time and it has to work, or at least it did for me. I had to completely remove both bottom Diehl wing skins from the ribs & spars. It was not very hard.( I will inform you how if you need to,) BUT First I would remove the 36" rib from the end on the spars, by using a 2" or 3" metal putty spreader(the one with a wood handle) and hammer, slowly hit along the V/ester join between the rib and the wing skin , it will crack, then do the same around the ends of the spar, this is the hard part depending what you glued the rib to the end of the spars with. I made two ribs for the end of the spars out of 1/4" aircraft ply and filled them with lightning holes. reset you wash out, PLACE STANDS under BOTH spar ends to hold the wash out in the correct position, and glue the 36" rib , and BOB's YOUR UNCLE, problem fixed. WARNING If you epoxy the ply to the spars, V/Ester will NOT dry properly in the presents of epoxy!!!! How do I Know ?????? I was told this by my local F/Glass repairer, and he is CORRECT If you can not get the correct wash out , you may to remove a few more ribs until the wing is flexible, It seems like an impossible job, BUT it was very easy once you get started. I had to replace both my main spars, and did only very slight damage to the wing skin surface.I then use a 4" angle grinder with a course sanding disc and sanded all the old flox off and refitted the skins and ribs. also if you damage the ribs, just move each rib out one place on the spars, cut them down to make new ones, then you only have to make a new number one rib, I did , and made it out of ply as well, instead of buying foam ply, which I could not get in Australia. ( with out paying $$$$$) Please get back to me if I can help , or if this does not make sense. Its nice to be able to try and help someone else for a change, I'm the one usually getting help. The FAA's ruled against it so as not to add another level of bureaucracy into the process.......imagine that. If the boat was damaged (normally from collision) the bonding to the timber was very easy, clean it, light sand and fix it. I'm told there is still "timber impregnation resin" available today. I would use this to seal all my timber, but as I bought my KR2 complete, I have to live with what's there. (until I build a KR2S, don't tell my wife :-) For those interested I was building light, high performance canoes, sailing boats and speed boats. (I still have my vacuum pump equipment for vacuum moulding though it hasn't been used in 10+ years) Regards Barry Kruyssen Cairns, Australia kr2@BigPond.com AUF Registered 19-3873 http://users.tpg.com.au/barryk/kr2.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jan 2004 22:57:14 -0500 From: "robert cooper" To: "KRnet" Subject: RE: KR>spam. I drew a sketch of how it should work, built a crude wood system, built a system out of 4130 tube, decided it was too flexible, so ordered some heaver tubes.I worked with it some more but was not satisfied with my bearing design so scrapped the system and went back to cable and bellcrank. Its lighter, cheaper doesn't take as much time as designing and redesigning and it works. I was even going to make the bellcrank moveable so as to have a flaperon system. Take a look at http://www.jackandsandycooper.com/aileroncontrol.html . Hope you have better luck. Please, =where= is that stated in a Regulation referring to ground based navigation systems ?? AC's are not regulations, and GPS is not ground based. AC 20-138 doesn't do it, it is an Advisory and not a Requirement, and AC 20-138 is re. GPS, =not about= ADF, VOR, LOC, GS avionics. Citing AC 20-138 is irrelevent and adds nothing but confusion. The periodic VOR Check of FAR 91.171 is =all= that is required, and it does not say anything about meeting a TSO standard. Nor does FAR 91.205 say "TSO". Even FAR 91.205(f), "Category II" (which points to Appendix A), does not ever mention let alone mandate TSO standard'ed equipment. TSO'd avionics are NOT required. Believe otherwise if you must, but don't state otherwise absent an FAR to support it --- which I'll happily concur with as soon as it is presented as "one [of many] I may have missed". This question arises often, and the excellent EAA piece (thanks, Dana) : http://home.hiwaay.net/~sbuc/tvrvbg/_borders/IFR%20equipment.pdf .........summed up the research in its answer: "N O." We can agree to disagree, too. Not a problem. I'm back to sanding in the 34-F carport. Winds of 20, gusts to 35 blowing the dust away. Painting will have to wait until it gets a =lot= warmer and a bit less windy! a r t ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! If you raise your rear centre spar above the lower longerons by about = 5/8" and leave the main centre spar sitting on the longerons you can = obtain the following advantages: 1.. A reduction in angle of incidence of the wing (chord line relative = to firewall) from about 3 1/2 degrees to 2 1/2 degrees. This reduces the = nose down look that KRs have in level flight. 2.. A reduction in the decalage angle (relative difference betwen wing = and tail plane incidence). This reduces drag. 3.. A gap under the spar so that you can run a elevator push rod under = your seat from the bottom of the stick to the bell crank behind the = spar. To set the washout at the wing tip I used the outer ply rib tacked with = a single brad to the centres of each outer spar where intersected by the = chordline and then just lifted the rear one until the appropriate = washout was achieved. Followed by support and then glueing. Maintain the = support until your skins are on and set to avoid the sagging problem.=20 Regards The Martindale Family 29 Jane Circuit TOORMINA NSW 2452 AUSTRALIA phone: 61 2 66584767 email: johnjane@chc.net.auFrom johnjane@chc.net.au Thu Jan 15 23:29:14 2004 Received: from green.hot.net.au ([216.93.176.26] helo=Hot.net.au) by lizard.esosoft.net with esmtp (Exim 3.36 #1) id 1AhOPp-000JLK-00 for krnet@mylist.net; Thu, 15 Jan 2004 23:29:13 -0800 Received: (from root@localhost) by Hot.net.au (8.12.6/8.12.6) id i0G7J83E095644 for krnet@mylist.net; Fri, 16 Jan 2004 18:19:08 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from johnjane@chc.net.au) Received: from johnjane (async167-pool-v.in.com.au [203.202.110.167]) by green.hot.net.au (8.12.6/8.12.6) with SMTP id i0G7J07h095492 for ; Fri, 16 Jan 2004 18:19:06 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from johnjane@chc.net.au) Message-ID: <008e01c3dc00$de178560$75a0fea9@johnjane> From: "Martindale Family" To: "KRnet" Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 18:10:13 +1100 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1106 X-scanner: scanned by Inflex 1.0.12.3 - (http://pldaniels.com/inflex/) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1b3 Subject: KR>Aileron pushrods X-BeenThere: krnet@mylist.net X-Mailman-Version: 2.1b3 Precedence: list Reply-To: KRnet List-Id: KRnet List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Help: Folks I just took a pushrod off the bottom of my stick out behind the rear of = the front spar to a crank mounted at the wing gap off the front WAF = bolts; thence a second tube back within the gap to the aileron lug.
