It will be single place, Hershey Bar wing, Diehl gear. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible, so it will be VFR with only basic gauges and probably open cockpit to begin with. I know this goes counter to what most are trying to achieve--better performance, but this is the beauty of the KR construction--you can make the plane fit your needs. I purchased KR2S plans and they will be my guide. I would like to talk to people who are flying KR's with straight planform wings--what airfoil did you use and what are the stall and cruise numbers. Flyin at the airport now!! Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed MIME-Version: 1.0 Precedence: list Message: 6 IMPORTANT CHANGE OF LOCATION-Directions at the end of this email. Due to the tremendous volume of emails concerning flying in to the get together at i39, Richmond, KY on February 28th, I am moving the central gathering point from my shop to my private T hangar at i39. I’ll have my tools there for newbies to play with along with some cloth and West System. The two Van’s starter kits will be available for anyone to grab and work away on. I’ll drag out a TV and be playing several DVD’s and RV videos. We should a nice local attendance with press coverage. I figure we all want to see RVs anyway and hang out at the airport on a Saturday……….life’s rough:-) Anyone flying in, be sure and check the NOTAMs as there is prohibited airspace on the east side of I-75 for the army depot. I have also heard from several pilots who are offering free RV rides to potential builders and builders. Several people have also asked what time it starts: When the first person gets there and when the last person leaves. TeamRV is planning on performing their Oshkosh routine along with some just fun formation flying. A formation flight from the Ohio Valley RVators has issued a challenge on TeamRV’s website about a competition. A nice little back and forth is going on right now:-). I have received an email from a member of The Falcon RV Squadron and am awaiting a confirmation. The sponsors signed on so far to assist us with free giveaways is impressive and still growing. I would certainly encourage all to remember this gang. Control Vision: free total AnyWhere Map software package Trioavionics: $200 discount coupon on the purchase of an EZ Autopilot Avery: A box of various tools and such Kitlog Pro: Paul has donated a Kitlog software package. Van’s: Two starter kits Grand Rapids: 10% off coupon on the purchase of an EIS engine system. Riteangle AOA: $50 off coupon on the purchase of a new angle of attack unit. I’ve still working on some more sponsors so the list will expand. In addition, Tracy Crook has faxed me some info on his Rotary packages. Along this same line, I have spoke with Conversion Concepts http://www.conversionconcepts.com/rv-6-7.htm about attending. This is the company I am going with for my custom-built engine mount. I’ll have my gold powder coated rotary 13B there for anyone to criticize or as an impetus to slap me around for making such a choice. After the flyin at the airport remember, anyone is more than welcome to stop my the shop to help finish off the keg……………..I’d say the Hooters Wings will be long gone. You can see the entire text of what is going on the main page at vansairforce.net I’ll try and keep everyone informed as to any new giveaways and look forward to the 28th. My cell number is 859 625-2844. Direction for driving to the airport, (lots of people are driving in) Off I-75, take exit 77 (KY route 595) and turn west. Go about 200 yards and make a right between the BP Station and the Shell Station. Go exactly 2.0 miles and make a right onto Madison County Airport Road. The airport road will take you directly to my hangar (Matter of fact someone kept going straight once and drove into the hangar, pushing the 172 out the back thus requiring the subsequent purchase of the Bonanza……that’s a different story). Anyone wanting to stay over close to the airport, there is a Holiday Inn Express behind the BP and a Days Inn (I think that’s it) at the exit ramp. The airport is about 15 miles from my house/shop. Here is a list of the better motels within 10 minutes of my house/shop. KRnet is caught up for the moment, and the Gathering had a good bit left over from last year (thanks to Linda, Terry, and company), but I'd think that you could never have too much money "at the ready" for Gathering purposes, especially if one year turns into a gully washer and somebody gets stuck with some large bills. Both Joe Horton and Orma Robbins have done some checking on prices and have come up with stickers that will cost somewhere around a dollar each. I'm not sure how serious you guys are about raising money in this manner, so I'm not sure what kind of price to put on them, or how many to order. I've asked Bob Lee to make up a "test-the-water" web page where folks can go and place their order, tell how many they want, and enter their mailing address. This way we'll have some idea on how many we need to order, and perhaps there will be a price break if we can order more than we think we need now. How about $4 each, $7 for two, or $10 for three? This would include postage, except overseas orders will have to have appropriate postage added, probably something like $5, depending on where it's going. This won't break anybody's bank, and has the potential to raise some "real" money. If we end up with more money than we need for the Gathering, we can stash it away for later, or maybe do something like buy a few used propellers from KR builders that need something different. Then these used props could be "rented" out for $50 or so to builders to see if maybe that prop is "right for you", or something like that. Then if you like the prop, you could buy it from the fund for whatever we have in it, or turn it back in and try another one. This is a service that I could see some real benefit from, and has the potential for saving you guys a lot of money on props, especially if you are a bad "guesser". It could also be a lifesaver for somebody that's stuck off in BFE with no prop, and there's one just like you need "in the fund", waiting for overnite delivery to you. I'm not volunteering to run this thing or to mail props, but I can see how I might end up doing it if some other folks don't volunteer. Just an idea. We'll need some volunteers to send these labels out. I don't know of ANYBODY that wants to mail 500 stickers out. If we sell 500, we'll need 10 guys will volunteer to stuff envelopes and mail them out. It ought to take less than an hour to send out 50 stickers (many will get 2 or 3 per envelope), and the fund will furnish the stamps (volunteer buys the envelopes). The stickers will probably be 3x3 and hopefully on a clear background, but might be white or black, don't know yet. There are some details still to be worked out. I need a volunteer to take our KRnet logo and doctor it up into a high res image. Robert Covington did it originally, but lost the original, so we're stuck with the very pixelated image that you see at http://www.krnet.org/gifs/krlogo.gif (unless somebody has a copy of it). Somebody needs to PhotoShop this thing into a smooth, respectable 300 dpi image to make the printers happy. I realize that it will just get shrunk down again, but that's what they want, and it would be nice to get this image off of life support. Bob hasn't done the ordering web page thing yet (I haven't really told him what we want), but when it's up and going I'll let you know. Volunteers should probably email me direct at the email address below.
