Can anyone tell me anything about a KR2 with a BRS. Did anyone ever use one? Does anyone have one mounted? Where would u mount one and what effect does it have on flight charasterics?_______________________________________ Joe I installed a 1050 on my kr2s. The kr has an installation plan already drawn up at BRS, If you contact them they will be more than helpful. Talk w/ Brent he has seen my project and is very helpful. the 1050 weights @23 lbs thats including the harness the actual soft pack (which I recommend vs the canister)is about 18 lbs. I have flown since installation and have noticed only a slightly heavier nose, since I mounted it in the forward baggage comp. The harness, if installed correctly has no noticeable effect on aerodynamics. I must say that the peace of mind the brs gives me is worth much more than the cost and time to install. The nose can be compensated w/ a little counter weight. If you have any more questions feel free. If inside, they need to be routed in a way that will not hurt you in a deployment. If outside, they needed to be covered with a single ply of glass and faired in to the fuselage. Mine will be mounted behind the seat and above the luggage area. I have a roll bar behind the seat that serves three functions: it should keep the plane off my head when it flips over, it is a mounting point for my shoulder harness, and it will be a mounting point for the parachute package. First, I purchased a completed but not flown KR2, I did a weights an balances a found that the CofG was in the back 3 inches and I needed to add weight to the front, therefore why not add something useful (I could have rebuilt the engine mount and moved the engine forward with all the other associated changes, but I want to go flying and this is cheap insurance). It is mounted on the passenger side in front of the fire wall and the straps are fitted to the engine mount to fire wall connection points. If deployed I will descend tail first with the aircraft at about 80 degrees form horizontal. The tail will be a "crush zone" and I imagine the tail and at least 1 wing will be a write off but the expensive parts may be reusable and I should survive. One = inside the fuselage and one on the stub wing.I would think that two = brackets per gear leg should be sufficient.(?) This would save me the = trouble of re-engineering stick and brackets(which are already = installed) to get around the centre gear leg bracket if I was to move = the brackets to the rear of the spar.(which would involve considerably = more work!) You might think that i'm being stubborn about using the spring bar in = the tri-gear conversion but I would like to cover all possibilities = before giving up on this idea. Happy building and flying. When you turn one you will have to adjust the other. To do that you would have to pump it up to an altitude make an adjustment, then pump it up to the higher altitude and make the other adjustment and back down again to see if any more adjustments are necessary. The KR in question is the one with pictures on the krnet site under my name. N number 211LF. First flight was on December 12 and I got four flights in before sending the prop back for a re-pitch. During the downtime I put all new parts on the induction system and chased some other minor details. I also developed a leak in my left wing tank that took me several attempts to eliminate. I finally took the wing home, cut open the bottom side, removed the foam, cut out the bottom of the tank, re-sealed the tank, replaced the bottom, repaired the wing, and got it flying again on Feburary 13. I now have 14.3 hours on the hour meter. A tip from "been there - done that". I'm using a handheld radio and I have it wired to aircraft power. I got in the habit of not shuting it off for engine shutdown and startup. Yesterday I "cooked" it ! That's going to be a $200 to $300 dollor mistake. Heath - Columbia, SC +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I tried a few slips yesterday at altitude using 85 indicated and I didn't get the "very quick" nose down pitch. I think that I came in with mostly rudder this time and the wing seemed to go down on it's own. I held the slip for 3 to 4 hundred feet and was getting a pretty high sink rate. I'll have to do some more testing with different control inputs and feel it out some more. The one thing I'm sure of is that it is a lot more difficult to do a "smooth" slip in the KR than in the much larger aircraft like a Tripacer. Maybe it's just a matter of practice. The other thing I'm sure of is I love my speed brake! I flew formation with a Mooney yesterday. He was using 23" and 2400 rpm. I was at full throttle cruise pulling about 2550 rpm from the 0-200. When I get some wheel pants installed I should be able to give him a good run. I've managed to fly 7.5 hours in 5 days. I've got 20+ landings and takeoffs now and I've seen my life flash before my eyes so many times it's like watching re-runs on T.V. !! :-) Larry Flesner ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 15:42:55 +0100 From: "Serge F. The issue is the aileron bell crank assembly. He says that the two crossing cables (the cable that goes to the forward spar pulley and the cable that goes to the second bell crank) are very close to each other, and he suspects it should not be the case. I checked the drawings to understand the problem. Could you guys confirm that he should have 1 inch vertical separation between both cables?
