I will call you as time approaches to let you know my schedule. Crystal clear skies, zero wind, smooth as glass and nice cool temps. My KR flew and handled flawlessly. What a pleasure that 1.1 hour flight was. You guys who are building have got to get cranked up and get your planes finished. You have no idea how much fun you are missing out on. I have 26.6 flight hours logged. I will be installing my belly skin this weekend and wonder. Should I use staples or weights? I have enough jugs filled with water to cover the entire skin. I don't know if this would distort, twist, or even create a good contact. Sure would be nice not to have to remove those staples. Spars and horizontal stab complete. If you use the jugs, you'll have to be sure that you have good contact (start with T-88 on both parts, by outlining first), and that will be tough considering the curvature. Cut the belly almost to shape (within a quarter inch or so) and then use a router to flush cut it later. One downside is that excess epoxy will run down the spruce due to gravity and look bad. Or do the same and use staples. Staples work OK if you use stout wire or nylon string under the staples, but T-88 sticks so good to the staples that some will break and you'll have to "roll them out" with pliers. It's pretty easy if you use the rounded edge of the pliers for leverage to roll off to one side. Two benefits to using staples is that once you staple it, you can flip the boat over as soon as you're done stapling and all the excess T-88 will flow down to form a nice fillet between plywood and spruce. The other is that perfect contact will be assured. There will be some holes to fill, but an hour of micro and sanding will hide them forever. Want to be assued of a good bond, uniform pressue on the glue lines?, staples are the way to go. It's a pain to remove them later but ya get used to it! The empty hole in the instrument panel is where the old fuel gauge was. The new one will be put in this weekend. The OT was not working, but it must have been that I did something to the wires while I was under the panel as it was working when I tested it in boiling water. The ammeter is showing discharge because I forgot to turn the alternator on. When putting the fuel probe in the tank, do you use gasket sealer or just the gasket. The probe seller man said to use sealer and I did. It was Locktite sealer and it just gooed all over and leaked. Other than that, the fuel gauge is working now. See you in Mt. I will be using staples. I was planning on putting on the tail section half of the skin when it dried then adding the front. guess I will have to live with the messy glue on the tail half. Or wait and do both at the same time. I HAVE TO drive to Aircraft Spruce on tuesday and buy ANOTHER 4 x 8 ply. Darn I still wont be able to turn the boat this week. Again thanks to those that replied. I just made the recess diameter 1/8 inch bigger than I needed, installed the gasket with no sealer then poured a little jeffco tank sealer around the probe mount. I hauled these tanks around in the back of an old van full of fuel for a couple of weeks to test for leaks. Missouri has the worst roads in the nation so I considered this a good test. So far no leaks. Mike Turner Jackson, Missouri When putting the fuel probe in the tank, do you use gasket sealer or just the gasket. The probe seller man said to use sealer and I did.
