The deer picture was so badly out of focus that you could barely tell there was some brown stuff on the runway (it happened to fast I didn't have time to look through the viewfinder, so the camera focused on the cowling instead), but I did get a 200 mph photo, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/050725045m.jpg . I'll go ahead and asnwer this question....the bolt with the wire wrapped around it is Larry's temporary starter pull handle (0-200 pull starter). That was yet another fun KR ride, and I appreciate Larry indulging me again. His is one sweet handling KR, with nicely balanced ailerons and elevators. No PIO's for me! That belly board really puts on the brakes! No PIO's for me! >That belly board really puts on the brakes! >>Mark Langford +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The pleasure was all mine. The "bolt and wire" was to be a SHORT TERM fix when the cable on the T-handle pulled completely out on startup one day. A piece of .042 safety wire and a bolt seemed like a good fix to keep me flying. It has been, for about six months now!! I really need to get that taken care of but it is a great conversation starter. :-) I was a excited as you to see 200mph on the ASI. 185/190 was about the fastest I've seen it before the wheel pants. The 2000fpm on the VSI would indicate a very steep dive but the angle was not all that steep. It was more a product of speed at a moderate decent angle. YEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa............. Larry Flesner +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Looking at the photo again I can see the VSI was at 1000 fpm, not 2000 fpm. I didn't think we were diving all that steeply. I also noticed the engine still didn't hit "redline". I guess at the 2000 hour point it's just plain tired !!! Yes, the tach is accurate to within 50 rpm or so as measured with a digital remote tach. I misjudged how much speed I would pick up after turning off downwind at 1,000' one time and trying to get 200' over the runway. There is no pucker factor like the one you get when your ailerons start to flutter while 200' over the ground. I had actually flutter tested the plane to 238 MPH and only got to 215 during the pass, but I did not have the same death grip on the stick during the pass which may have contributed to the flutter. Ohskosh is going good. Bill Clapp showed his KR off during the homebuilt review flybyes on Wednesday and today. I flew it just in front of him in the M1. I tried to tell them it was an aluminum KR, but they didn't buy it. ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Mark Jones" Reply-To: KRnet Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2005 12:24:30 -0500 >Yes I agree that, at 90% of the airports, this practice should not be >encouraged. That's right, seven pages on Corvair engines which also includes KR's flying with Corvairs. Nice job....my hat's off to Kitplanes Magazine.......
