You may have to move some other things, like battery, to keep the weight placed properly. Cutting weight is always good. It may not buy you but 5 mph more cruise (less drag) but the takeoff and climb should improve. In my KR, there is a NOTICABLE difference from nearly empty to full fuel of 25 gallon. I was hoping to get in some formation flight time with you as our KR's are so similar. Please give us a short verbal on how you did your spinner. I'd like to know what other options I might have for future reference. Larry Flesner ---------------------------------------------------------------- My KR is currently tailless, so is no longer airworthy. It should be at the 2006 gathering, which I'm guessing/hoping will be in Granada, MS based on last year's pitch and the reception to it. Spinner: Aluminum on aluminum on the front bulkhead plus any motion between the two inside the spinner causes it to abraid. There are two ways to address the problem. 1) screw it on tight to the front bulkhead so there is no movement to cause abrasion, or 2) use a material that won't abraid. My front bulkhead has a single layer of teflon tape wrapped around it and a very snug fit. I found the telltail aluminum oxide dust as soon as I started flying with this spinner, so added the teflon tape. That was 175 flight hours ago. Since then, no aluminum dust and no wear. On some certified aircraft you will see this addressed by using a tapered cone that slips inside a bulkhead in the spinner, but for the average hombuilder it is much simpler to do as you did and add 4 - 6 screws into nutplates in the front bulkhead. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer depending on the wood, number of laminations etc. My 64 laminate prop from Performance Props recommends 32 - 35 ft lb, which is so tight that it damages the wood.
