First, I flew my youngest son (Nicholas, 6) and then took my older son (Carter, 7) up for a ride. Both of them were extremely excited about flying in Daddy's plane. It was a pure joy to share the fun with them. They are already asking when we will go again. I had stated that I cut out the section from the top logerons down to the top of the stub wings between the spars. What I did was sit in the Kr prior to making an insicion in order to determine what was a comfortable location for the arm rest. Once I had my arm in the position I wanted. I used a magic marker to outline the bottom of my arm and elbow. That is the section I cut out along with all truss members at that point allowing an extra 5/8 and 1/4 inch for build back. This allowed the arm rest to slope from my elbow up toward the instrument panel and put in side sticks. With the arm rest narrow/low at the elbow and higher/wider at the side sticks. You would be surprised how much extra room that gives you by getting the elbows and shoulders out of the way on each side. I did the side sticks because I had the arm rests anyway and felt I might have a little extra control with a very stable platform for my arm as opposed to resting my arm/elbow on my knee. If you deside to do this just make sure you get the top of the arm rests high enough to clear your knees but wide enough for the side stick control movements should you choose to go to the side sticks. I figure about 2 pounds of cloth and what ever resin it would need. I had already planned on using a vail cloth to side the plane with anyway, to provide a nice finish. CF is neart stuff to work with and sands very nicely. Kevlar is great for bullet proof vests, but lousy to try to sand and finish. However, if you are planning combat duty in your KR, it may be useful. ;o) Most that responded to a question a few weeks ago said they used about 1 1/2 gallons of paint. You can weigh a gallon of paint and estimate how much of the liquid evaporates, but I would guess that the average KR is carrying roughly 15 - 20 lbs of paint on the exterior.
