I spent all morning going to get and returning a trailer, only to find out that it was not wide enough and only got one wing to the hangar, transported in the back of the truck on the way to take the trailer back. So I spent $35 trying to save $40 and now I have to spend the $40 anyway. On Monday, a rollback tow truck ( wrecker ) is going to come to the house and pick up the WannaBee and transport her to someplace more suitable to grow wings. The other wing will follow in the back of the pickup. Here is how she looks, all ready for her new home. http://krbuilder.org/FinishingUp/index.html Click on the second pic............................... It cost me 11.00 per linear yard @43 in wide. A great deal on some surplus. It is 282 carbon comercial grade. It weighs 5.8 oz per yard. That is almost the same as the weight of KR glass I think. It uses the same amount of resin as glass and generally woking with it is the same as glass. You can vacuum bag, I guess. I just laid it up like regular glass. I did a test to see if I would gain, or lose weight. If you are very carefull with your resin the two types of consturction are identical in weight. The only weight savings I had was the foam frame. I don't know how to explain it well, but the weight savings I ended up with was this: If you made a fuselage out of 5/8 foam instead of spruce and weighed it, then subtracted all the extra resin that I put in my layups that I didn't have to, then you would have a small weight savings. I'm sure that made no sense whatsoever. The weight of the kr2, not the "s" model, but the kr2, with center spars and fittings was 64 lbs per plans. My plane was 24" longer, 6" wider, and 2" taller, it also has laminated and bent spars that are bigger and weigh more. Last weight ck I did showed that I would be at 80 lb. It's an Australian monster. It exists in Aboriginal stories and art, as well as in modern reports. Descriptions vary widely- the Aborigines describe it as having tusks, flippers, and a tail like a horse. The Aboriginal Bunyip lived in or near water such as creeks, pools & billabongs. The Bunyip is supposed to emerge at night to prey on animals, and women and children. It gives a loud bellowing cry if approached. When the Aborigines hear the cry, they stay away from the water. More recent accounts vary widely in their descriptions, ranging from hairy, scaled, feathered, fur, long tail, long neck, horse head, bird head etc... Is it real? Camp by a billabong on a hot summer's evening, listen to the noises in the bush and you be the judge. John Bavington (Not the same John, but I couldn't help but reply...) I called a flat bed tow truck when I brought my first KR back from the airport to work on it and to bring it back to the airport when I was done. It worked great and didn't cost much. I tried renting a regular U Haul truck at first thinking that the plane without wings was a little over 500 pounds and I could get four or five guys to help load it into the truck. Not a chance.
