The power level is just too far down there for any kind of decent climb performance. No doubt it could be done, however. >And 1600cc engines often don't have the >larger "Force One" main bearing at the prop end, as done by Great >Plains. If you're going to the trouble of machining the case for the larger bearing, you might as well make it an 1835cc engine, which itself isn't a stellar performer either. It's never a good idea to attach the prop to the pulley end of a stock VW crank with the 92mm (1834cc) big bore kit without a Force One hub. A better way to drive the prop using the larger cylinder bores is off of the flywheel end of the engine but you'll need a reverse pitch prop. 92mm bore kits have thin wall cylinders. A better choice is 90.5mm which is about 1700cc. When running big bore cylinders too much material has to be removed from the case which makes it weaker. If I needed more power I think I'd run a 110 hp Corvair although I don't know how well it would fit into my KR-2. -Joe ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 4 Dec 2005 01:33:52 -0500 From: Subject: Re: KR> updated KR Gathing photos on my website To: "KRnet" Message-ID: <001401c5f89c$c37182f0$6564a8c0@server> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I talked to him there but I do not remember his name. I'm a big guy and I have decided that the KR is probably not for me. My building partner is now on his own with the project, although I help him quite a bit. I have decided to build a bi-plane, a Skybolt to be exact. It's designed was a big guy like me and it's built for big guys. This list is great because there is no other support groups where so many with so much information gather. I continue to learn many things here, and one day when I feel the time is right, I may build a single seat KR for just me...In the mean time I hope ya'll don't mind me hanging around andlearning some KR things that I can apply to my project. I remember as the first Tri Q (as they are often called I first seen at Sun N Fun in 1994. I fell in love with the design as I had a Canard plane ( Varieze ) at the time. The thought of a canard with electric start and standard gear was very appealing to me. By the way, the one I seen at Sun N Fun was having it's tail glassed back on. While taxing on at Sun N Fun, an old Radial Bi Plane was taxing behind him. The Bi plane did not see the little Tri Q and taxed right up and cut his tail off. I was parked along the side of the taxi way when it happened. I was yelling at the Bi plane driver to stop. I guess he did not understand what I was trying to say. Fiberglass went flying everywhere. The guy with the Tri Q was from Iowa. One of the demo tents volunteered their time and effort and was able to put on a very good demonstration of their product while fixing the Tri Q. The guy flew it home at the end of the week. I looked at Tri Q 's and dragonflies for quite some time but, the Tri Q had been out of circulation for some time due to a legal battle that put them out of business, and the Dragon was changing hands to often. I felt the support was not there or at least not like the support from the KR community. Ok, here's one stab though, I have never flown in anybody else's KR however. But, I have only been to one gathering and a couple of Sun N Fun's ( not the place to get a ride) I guess I want a ride because I have an itch to change my 2180 to a Corvair. But then again, I need to stop changing things and just fly.
