With the old canister type filters definitely but with a spin on? I have yet to see one of them suckers ever come loose in fact when installed per manufacturers spec I find that come time for an oil change you'd swear that a guerilla tightened that thing when it was put on. This has to be one of those cases where the rules haven't caught up to technology. As for K&N, I have used their oil and air filters for years in racing motorcycles due to their lack of restriction. Doug Rupert Common practice on aircraft filters is to safetywire the filter. Is there any way to wire this one? On my first filter for testing and taxi testing, I used an auto filter Larry Flesner -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Seems I've seen a filter with a stainless hose clamp around it and they had safety wired to the hose clamp. Better than nothing. I've also seen one with a magnet attached with a hose clamp, the idea being to keep any microscopic steel from circulating through the lube system. It was not approved for aircraft, but it did meet other standards and I made sure that it did not burn. They also did the occasional aircraft and could order the approved materials. You will probably find a shop or two that does the occasional airplane if you call around your local shops and might just find one with some left over materials.
