I did not think to do that on my ailerons but if I had, I would have. I would put one on each end of the aileron and space five or six more evenly in between the two outer ones. Do the same on the flaps and I would think a total of three per flap would be sufficient. This is just my .02 worth and there is no engineering data to back this up. They have their own airstrip but I could not talk my wife into flying there. She does not really like small planes. The reason I am telling you this is that you too can build and finish that KR when it seems everything tries to keep you from finishing. In the past 10 years, I built and sold a house in Dallas, TX, moved to Wisconsin, bought and completely remodeled a house myself. I did everything except lay the carpet. I now have three children 2, 6 and 7 and built from plans and finished a KR-2S and also completely built my Corvair engine. You too can do it. The only thing I have to do before that first flight is a final weight and balance which will be done next weekend. After that, I hope to soon join the ranks of KR Pilot. My wife can not figure out why I keep yelling YeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaa in my sleep. And this is the best ever. I mean it. This year I had Terry Ballard help with the editing (he was my second cameraman last year)and he did a terrific job. This years video is 57 minutes long, and contains lots of KRs, interviews with builders, shots of KR interiors, engine installs, detail shots, KRs flying, KRs on the ground, pics of your friends, couple of KR songs, the awards, and did I mention lots of KRs. There are three different ways to get a Gathering video. 1. Host a Gathering. (FREE) 2. Fly your plane to the Gathering. (FREE) 3. Send your name and address to: Omega Productions 1050 Parkhurst St. NW Grand Rapids, MI 49504 Include a check for $25 and tell me if you want a DVD or VHS tape. Sorry, no PAL or SECAM versions are available for you folks outside of North America. However if you can use NTSC, I'll pick up the additional shipping costs. Still only $25US. Now for all you KR pilots who flew your KR to the Gathering, could you please email me your mail address so I can get your free video into your hands. Email address is: videobob@tds.net DO NOT REPLY THROUGH KRNET!!! If you know of someone who flew their KR in, but is not on KRNET, please help me with their mailing address also. Otherwise you can pickup your free video at Mt. Vernon next year. Guys, when I watched the completed video again last night, I got so pumped about the next Gathering that I just can't wait. Mark, how many days?????? BTW, we'll be getting a sample clip of video on the internet, probably next week. I'll let you all know how you can see it. Thanks again guys. You all are great friends, can't wait to see you in Mt. Vernon. VideoBob P.S. You can miss Sun 'n Fun, you can miss Oshkosh, but never miss the Gathering. ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Fri, 4 Mar 2005 12:44:02 -0500 From: "Jack Cooper" Subject: RE: KR> 2004 KR Gathering Video Available!!!! They make the best hanger doors anywhere and they have an aluminum frame. I remarked to him that the repairman made very easy work out of a repair that I watched on a neighboring hanger with the TIG welder on their repair truck. We got to talking about welders and airplanes and such. He said that he had been to Oshkosh and that a fellow there set up and sold some kind of no-name-brand TIG welder. He said " ...if I were going to buy a welder, I would go to Oshkosh and look this thing over very closely again." What ever it was, it impressed a guy that has used the best to weld with. Sure do appreciate all the help you've been. BTW, could you get me the address for the mayor of Mt. Vernon. We didn't use his interview in the video (I hope that's okay) but we did make a Special Thanks in the credits to Mt. Vernon and acknowledged him as mayor. If you think it's necessary, I could make a Gathering DVD with his interview in it just for the city. No one would ever know that his interview wasn't in everybody elses DVD. What do you want? All strapped up and started filming on takeoff from Sanford, landing at Massey Ranch for fuel. Went back to review film and.... Glare on the windshield washed out the video entirely! Nothing but blue glare from reflection of dash cover. Oh well, filming will have to wait until Bev can run the camera while I fly. Climbed to 5500 feet today with no appreciable drop in climb rate. Since adding vent tube to regulator charging has remained pretty constant. Since moving the carb inlet to below the heads, no more carb icing, and engine runs consistent from after 5min until shut down, and restarts are much easier. Just need to plug the hole in the baffles now. The air was so smooth at 5500' today before 2 pm that several times I was able to let go of the stick and the plane just stayed right there for several miles. NOT so below the cloud layer. Lots of horizontal windshear today. A queasy person would have gotten sick. Several times I ran out of control input and just had to ride where ever the plane was going in the turbulence. My speeds are now matching the GPS much closer, with adjustments for wind, so the static port will stay inside the cabin for now until a better location is determined. My stall speed is now down to 51 mph power off, and 49 mph power on, indicated speeds. Also I have been able to adjust pattern speeds down 10 mph and still have good control. Gassed up today twice and the totals show $38.69 for 15 gallons, giving a cost of $9.67 per hour, and fuel consumption average of 3.73 gallons per hour. Top speed 135 mph, cruise at either 120 mph or 105 mph. Can't beat the prices!!!! YEEHAAWWWW! 22.2 hours and counting... Also I would give a serious look at the Miller Econo tig. I never was successfull in finding any good deals on either one used on Ebay, but there is a heaping bunch of web stores on ebay that sell both Miller and Lincoln new welders at good prices. If you are going to Sun and Fun you should also look there. Both Miller and Lincoln have booths set up every year and they have some really good show deals. They will usually give you a great deal and ship it free also if you are not driving. I almost bought an Econotig last year and will probably get one this year. I assume that they do the same thing at Oshkosh if you don't go to SNF. One of the big advantages at the shows is that you can bounce back and forth between the two and figure out which one is better for you. I had the gear gun drilled for the brake lines. They obviously drill from the end of the legs and the 1/4" NPT thread comes out the bottom of the legs pointing straight down. In order to have the Cleveland brakes clear the gear leg they have to be on the bottom. Therefore, unless you put about an inch and a half spacer between the axle and the gear leg there is no way to hook a brake line to the bottom fitting on the gear. I am assuming that the intended way to attach the line is to drill a brake line port from the aft facing side of the gear leg into the other port, tap it, and put a plug on the end port of the gear. Unfortunately, I can't call them until Monday so if anyone sees that I am missing something let me know. Looking at it it seems obvious that this is what is intended, but I am wondering why it was not done like that when I received it.
