I have read , wit considerable interest, the article by Jack Cox, about your KR2 building experience. You are to be congratulated. Please consider it done. You have built a beautiful flying machine. I can only hope mine turns out so well. The article mentions that you did all this for $12,000. Did that include that nice instrument panel? I started my KR2S about 10 yers ago and did some scrounging myself buying at least three groups of parts from builders who decided not to continue building or flying. I estimate I can have mine flying (with primer only) for $18,000. That does include the panel. I hope to see you at the Gathering. May you have many HAPPY LANDINGS. You can add shipping cost of parts and materials which was close to $1,400 so I guess with shipping cost, I have a total of about $14,800 or so invested. Not too shabby for a high performance experimental. But then add the build time, then the costs skyrocket since I set my time values extremely high. Take the back cushion to your local upholstery shop. Have them sew a pouch five inches wide 4 inches from the bottom. Then insert a blood pressure cuff ( I got mine at Goodwill for $3 ) into the pouch. Shorten the hose to 5 or 6 inches. Instant lumbar support. Just pump the little bulb up and you can sit back there all day. Just a note. He promised all the rest for the weekend. I'll get some pictures out then. The only part left then to do is the fuselage. I have been systematical taking care of the details the past couple weeks. NACA vents done, cabin heat done, tieing up and securing wires and cables, labeling and started going thru the pre inspection check list. (Take into account I'm registered as an ultralite and cannot land at most controlled airports) I'm thinking of building fibreglass fuel tanks into my wing stubs working from the sides, not cutting the existing wing skins but laying up from the inside against the foam. (the finish on the wing stub has good shape, though the paint job is a little bit rough) This will probably involve turning the aircraft on it's side (I have the shed space, lifting equipment and the scaffold to do it.) Evaluating all of these birds for their own qualities, price, performance, etc., I've decided that the KR has the best of all worlds. One question that comes to mind is, "are the plans provided on CAD if not what size paper format are they printed.?" I have not ordered a set but will be doing so very soon. Your decision on the KR-2S is one you will never regret. It is truly the best bang for your buck. Unfortunately, the drawings are not available in CAD format. The drawings come in various sizes with the most common being on D size paper. You will find both the drawings and the manual will have a lot to be desired but are more than adequate to build a fine aircraft. The KR Net and Family is by far your best resource help and ideas. This group is made up of some of the most knowledgeable individuals you could ever want to be associated with. We are a close knit group and are proud of our planes. Do not hesitate to jump in and ask questions or give you comments. You will find that the KR Net archives can be one of the best resources of information. It is a simple search engine of all the Net posts.
